I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 10 years ago, and am so happy to have a cpap, even tho its a pain in the a**. I use it every night without fail. My medical supply company used to auto call every six months to sell supplies to me. But then I guess the rules changed (insurance companies??), and supplies can only be bought with a valid prescription (good for only one year). So a doctors visit ($200) and then purchase of overpriced supplies. It has been over a year since buying supplies, and I need to set up an appointment with a new doctor again. We have not been able to keep a regular family doctor, they keep moving from our area. Anyway, I was looking on amazon, and they carry supplies for WAY cheaper than my medical supplier, and I don't see anywhere where it says a prescription is needed. Anybody gone this route?
My medicare and Supplemental insurance cover new mask, hose, filters every 3 mos.
Every 2 years i can get a new humidifier chamber ( for distilled water) .
They call or i call the company that supplied the cpap machine. It does take 4-6 weeks to get the supplies.
For what its worth, I'm on my 3rd machine. First was old model and non adjustable. Second was adjustable but didnt have recording chip my pulmonologist wants and it failed. Thus model has chip. Automatically adjusting to my breathing for maximum help breathing as i sleep.
Id be concerned the Amazon supplies would not work with my unit. But if you think they will, go for it! Try it once, what have you got to lose?
I buy mine out of pocket on Ebay. Plenty of sellers selling brand new cpap supplies, at lowest prices. I've been using cpap for 20 years, and have always bought my supplies online. Never had to supply a prescription as of yet, if you look around. It's ridiculous to need a prescription just to buy a new mask and such. All that does is allow them to stick a gun in your ribs, to make you pay $200 for a $20 mask. I'd rather pay the $20 - $40, which is about what I consistently get them for.
I forgot to mention that I am not medicare age yet, I have company provided medical insurance, but it doesn't do much for me with this. It gets me discounted price on overpriced supplies, up to about $300 or so, depending on what I need, plus the doctors visit. I don't think my sleep apnea is going away, so the requirement for a prescription for supplies seems like robbery to me too MikeBear. Recently the place that sells me my supplies only does so by appointment, no walk ins.
I live in Texas which is a "negotiation" state and Medicare will only let me buy from certain companies. I got mad when the company that made my mask quit making them and they couldn't find anything I liked. I bought 2 from other companies before supplies ran out. I haven't had to use them yet. I don't see why the Breeze mask which is the only one claustrophobics can tolerate went off the market!

Try the Airfit P10 mask. I switched to that about 7 months ago, and it's really nice!

Like i said in earlier post, try it and see.
Since mine cost me nothing, i have no need to buy online. But if i didnt have the insurance I do, id certainly give Amazon a try.
