Stuck in the Philippines, no good hospitals or doctors in my city. Only one hospital in Manila internationally accredited and they are expensive. Doctors here speak English but so far all I have found are doctors who are ignorant, make serious mistakes that even I know are incorrect, and don't like anyone with questions.

Thinking of possibly going to another country for diagnosis of senior chronic diseases that are complex.
This requires SMART doctors, Dedicated doctors and good labs and equipment.

This is one of many links of an "organization" that lists the best places for medical tourism. Not sure I trust these orgs to tell the truth, many come across as advertisers. Money corrupts medicine. https://mtqua.org/top-10-worlds-best...-tourists-new/

Has anyone here had direct experience with other countries for complex medical issues? Please restrict your replies to countries where there is substancial savings. No point traveling if I get the same high prices as first world countries.

On my radar is Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan (maybe too expensive), Mexico (close to home at least), Colombia (supposedly has good medical system) and Ecuador (socialized medicine).

Thanks for any thoughtful replies.

This discussion came up on flyertalk_dot_com a few years ago and many people recommended Bumrungrad in Thailand. No idea of pricing.

I have a friend who left the US due to her chronic pain issues and the unwillingness of MDs to treat/prescribe her conditions thanks to the overreaction toward opioids. She moved to Costa Rica and is receiving top notch care from well-trained MDs at modern facilities for a mere fraction of what it would have cost in the US. Panama is another option with similar quality care and affordable characteristics along with the US Dollar as currency and English widely spoken.

Now that the OP has received some advice, can I be the one to point out that wherefore means why and not where?

In Romeo and Juliet, the meaning of “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” is not “Where are you, Romeo?” but “Why are you Romeo?”

But is she getting opiates to ease her pain? That's the million-dollar question. Opiates in Central America are more scarce than penguins. If she is I'll move there with her.
