I've been drinking ensure for years and it has 15 grams of sugar and I do have high Triglycerides and every site on the Internet is some kind of ad telling you how great it is. So I wonder if I should stop drinking it or does it matter if I have one every morning and 15 grams of sugar isn't going to hurt me however when you make a smoothie and start adding fruits the sugar is very high and that is the reason I use almond mile with no sugar and it very low in calories and a smoothie with almond milk just won't give me the calories I need until lunch so I take 1/2 boil egg and some egg whites alone with my smoothie but should I take ensure?
OP: A friend used this drink when she was taking off the 80 lbs she attacked. I bought a couple packets of 4 each and still have some in refrig and each bottle contains 1g sugar. I'm not wild about these drinks but in a pinch I would use this product.
Why are you drinking Ensure? Is there a medical reason for it? If not, I would say just eat real food. As a general rule, I don't drink calories. And you're right about the smoothies - they can be really high in sugar.
I do a smoothie every day with a half cup organic rolled oats in 2 1/2 cups cold water, 2 tbsp. ground flax seeds, a banana, 1 packet of organic stevia, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and 3 ice cubes. I mix it up in my Vita Mix. My doctor thinks this smoothie is fine, I have a heart condition and take medicine for high cholesterol. My triglycerides have always been normal and I eat desserts almost daily.
That recipe sounds good. I just use a banana, some frozen berries, and some almond milk. What are the oats for? and the flax seeds?
Also, I take turmeric with peperine (sp? too lazy to look it up) for cholesterol and fish oil for triglycerides and they worked. My dr said to keep taking them. That peperine is pepper to make it work better.
Why don't you test each drink individually? We've noticed differences in BG when we shift the consumption of nutritional supplement drinks. It can be as high as 30-40 mg/dl.
You might also track how much you're drinking water, tea, or other fluids that will dilute the blood sugar levels. We're seeing differences of about 20-30 mg/dl when we're not drinking enough versus 5-6 glasses, 2 of which are nutritional supplement drinks.

1) What does Ensure and sugar ave to do with cholesterol and high triglycerides?
2) Why have you been drinking something with 3 teaspoonfuls of sugar for years?
Coconut oil has been shown to lower total triglycerides. Try adding a spoonful to your smoothies. You can also get MCT oil, which is basically coconut oil in liquid form.
Stay away from trans fats too. Fish oil supplements can help as well.
Niacin capsules helped bring down my triglycerides. Dr recommended it.
