For the second time in 12 years, HIV infection was cured in a patient via bone marrow transplantation. Although it is a difficult claim to make in such small patient numbers, the claim can definitely be made, as the infection is no longer present in the body afterward. However, it is unlikely to be pursued as a large scale treatment since HIV treatment drugs are now so effective. Still, it's encouraging to know research has come so far in the treatment of such a devastating illness.
