Not sure what you mean by the bump, but the good news is that he's not quick with knife, and whatever happened, the pain is gone; probably the steroid shot kicked in.

At this point, the most important thing is to plan on little to no tension on that shoulder joint - maybe like, forever. Getting older means you just don't do all the things you did earlier in life. Happens to everybody.
Search Popeye arm and tenotomy. These will tell my tale. For folks with sore shoulders after many years, cutting this tendon is the possible treatment. My lack of pain in my shoulder is the bad and painful tendon separating. Counter-intuitive I know. But it’s a real thing.

My injury occured thusly. I opened a passenger door on a car, as I did so another car whipped into the space next to the car I was in. My instinct kicked in and as the heavy door was swinging out, I cranked it back in. And felt a burning sensation in my shoulder. I had constant pain after that before going to the ortho about 2 months later for the aforementioned cortisone shot and eventual rupture this past weekend. Which, right now, I am strangely considering a bit of a godsend. My “Popeye arm” is very minor, something only I would notice, and my shoulder pain is gone. All research says I may lose 15% strength in my supination (door knobturning/screwdriver turning ability. Right now, to avoid surgery, I can live with that. I see ortho surgeon on Wednesday who can confirm or deny. We shall see.

My injury was due to 3 days of back to back snowstorms. Over that period, I shoveled minimum 5 hours per storm throwing heavy snow over a 7 foot wall. By the 3rd day, I could barely raise my arm. Went to Ortho, who gave me Cortisone shots (I hate that stuff)....didn't work, then MRI showed tearing. I had the option of cutting the Tendon and letting it go, or try to anchor it......I went the anchor route.

Closing the loop. I saw my ortho doc today. Showed him my bicep and he said “third one I’ve seen today”. Nothing to do, or surgery needed....go live my life. Says in “fleshy” people, they often dont even know it has happened. As I’m generally fit, it shows on me - but I’m no longer terribly vain - and my shoulder feels so much better now that the Tendon tore/ruptured. The hardest part is realizing that I’m now in that age group where...they don’t fix things like this.

He said I wouldn’t notice any loss of strength and to just live normally - with no weightlifting over my head in the gym etc, which wasn’t on my things to do right now.

Said, “hey, the left arm might go too someday”, as I have relatively mild tendenitis there too. Then I’d have a matching set of “big muscles”.

Both Elway and Favre played and won with this same issue - and no surgery. So I’m in good company
