Nerves get compressed because of misalignment. From injuries, or incorrect posture, etc. Yoga helps correct misalignments and corrects posture.

Fact check if you doubt it.

Well its getting quite a bit worse. I moved this summer and saw a new Dr for a physical a few months ago and mentioned it. She wanted to know if it was mostly my thumb, index middle finger or the other two fingers. I wasn't sure. So I've been paying attention and its mostly the thumb, index, middle.
It does happen in bed so it might be sleeping position there. But it also happens at other times, I associate it with pressure, pressure of holding the steering wheel or.......daily life.
As of last night, this morning. Last night I had the worst by far. Normally I can shift position and shake my arm and it decreases. Last night it didn't "release" till I got up and walked around. And this mornign my fingers still feel a little funny.

Any thoughts to explore on this? 15 minutes with a Dr. isn't enough to not go in there with some ideas because I have other things to talk about too. Called yesterday for an appt and its a month out.
Hi Giesela,

I hope you're okay... have you got in to see your Doctor?

The 2 fingers that are affected along with your index and thumb; are they the fingers directly next to the other affected finger? The reason I'm asking was because I was thinking of the nerves being affected. I agree with the replies suggesting a neurology opinion, as this would be very beneficial. Sometimes my posture is quite poor and my thumb and index finger can be pins and needles, but this is because some 'messages' are getting through. Numbness is a concern. If I sleep 'funny' this can be blood supply, or just staying in one position for an excessive length of time.

I understand that 15 minutes isn't very long, but I should hope that your Doctor is good enough to listen to your symptoms and be able to come up with a plan of action... whether thats an immediate referral to a neurologist or whether they want to try something else first time will tell

Boy going to bed is getting to be an ordeal. I have to floss, brush my teeth, brush my retainers and put those in, put in eye drops because my eyes have dried up. start snore lab on my phone. Now wrist splints.

I sort of hate that this is nerve pain related because I was diagnosed with trigemenal neuralgia last year. Can have different causes, not sure what the cause was here. MRI came back clear at the time. Thankfully its not too bad yet. But its a nerve problem. So this would be another one. Probably unrelated?
As you probably learned when you were going through this, Trigeminal neuralgia is a disorder of the 5th cranial nerve.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve, typically as it passes through the wrist.

While carpal tunnel syndrome can be associated with other conditions that lead to inflammation around the median nerve, I do not believe there would be any correlation between Trigeminal neuralgia and carpal tunnel syndrome, so yes probably completely unrelated....

I've read through all these posts as I've developed some numbness in my fingers for the first time and I'm zeroing it in on a pinched nerve in my neck. About a year and a half ago my Ortho in Las Vegas, after doing a MRI with contrast, urged me to see a neck specialist, but the idea of potential surgery on my neck scared me off. I had tingling down my arm for some time, as a result of it, and I went to see a Doctor down in Mexico and within one minute he proclaimed: I know what you need! So I tried the Gabapin and I figured I'd have to take it every day the rest of my life, but surprise, surprise, I took one, the tingling went away, and I didn't need to take another for a month later, after doing too much heavy gardening. But this numbness in my fingers is totally new as the tingling before was located in my upper arm.

I did massage for 35 years and I feel a big knot in my shoulder area and I try to take it out with one of those Theracanes (which I've had for 30 years) to do acupressure points on it, and a TNS unit. Overuse can exasperate it. Playing too much solitaire or it's building buildings with my 300,000 piece Lego collection. @69YO I'm amazed, given the abuse I've heeped upon my body, that I'm not a total cripple. And those 35 years of doing massage I mostly did Deep Tissue/Sports massage which can really take a toll on any body.

But from these posts I'm leaning toward he pinched nerve as the culprit.

It would have to be something like that because if it were from a cervical disc problem the entire hand wouldn't be numb.

OP you should consider seeing a hand specialist or neurologist for your concerns.

You have some of the hallmark symptoms including night time symptoms and symptoms when driving.

As other posters have noted the median nerve which is what is compressed in carpal tunnel syndrome is involved with sensation of the thumb, index, middle and thumb side of the ring finger.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a compression neuropathy....the median nerve is being compressed typically at the wrist.

Night splinting with wrist neutral can sometimes help with the night time symptoms....NSAIDS may provide some relief along with nerve glide exercises which you can look up.

If symptoms do not improve with conservative care surgery is the best and sometimes only option to physically decompress the nerve. Untreated carpal tunnel syndrome can lead to muscle atrophy of the hand which is irreversible....

I can't rep you yet, this is a great post!
