Looks like the area was "pinched" with a blood bruise and some discoloration around it. Bruises take longer to heal as you get older. I would wait a few days for it to fade. Maybe you got it getting off/on a hard chair?
Well, I agree with Breoul. It clearly seems like it was caused by some sort of pinch, and is simply a blood blister.
IF it just suddenly seemed to show up out of nowhere, it's likely just that and will start turning yellow and fade. However, if you aren't sure, it couldn't hurt to get it checked out by a doctor.
If that's an irregular shaped mole, get to a Dermatologist ASAP. It does not look good
Could be a Melanoma---NOTHING SUPERFICIAL ABOUT THAT!!!!
I'm a nurse practitioner and my husband is an internal medicine MD - we both agree with Mike - you absolutely need to see a dermatologist. Please don't wait.
I have an odd spot just above the back of my knee. There is no pain, but does itch occasionally. I noticed two days ago after going for a walk. Since I live in a very rural area this could easily be a bite of some sort. However I have lived in this area of WV my whole life and have seen nothing like this before. Anyone have any ideas?
If you have only had it a couple days and it itches occasionally my best guess is bug bite. If it doesn't improve after a few days you might want to have it checked out. Honestly, for me I would be running to the doctor every damn day if I had to check out every weird spot I ever got. At age 70 my skin is thin and I now get those "blood bruises" on my arms. I also live in Florida and get bitten constantly by bugs and mosquitoes. In your case if it just popped up melanoma does not seem likely to me.
It could have been there for a while without me noticing. Only noticed it a couple days ago.
That's one of many reasons that you need to go see a dermatologist soon. The fact that it's located on the back of your knee is another reason - most people don't inspect the back of their knees and as you said, it could have been there for quite a while before you noticed it the other day.
If a bug bit you (which I highly doubt) you most likely, but possibly not, would have felt it when it happened. Someone else said that they thought it looked like a bruise from the skin in that area being "pinched." Again, if you were pinched hard enough to cause a bruise of that size, you would have noticed it right away, because that would hurt.
Please go see a dermatologist and don't wait!
And please come back here and post after you see the dermatologist and let us know what he/she said about it.

I'd be curious to hear other people's experience, but in several places where I have lived, it's not at all uncommon to wait many weeks (like 6-8 at least) to be able to see Derm as a new patient. I think some of it has to do with the fact that it's one of the last remaining specialties where you still routinely see people in solo private practice. One trick I used for my kids a couple of years ago was to call a teaching institution and ask them if they had a Residents clinic, and that got me in within just a couple of weeks.

So much truth in your words, I feel the same. I'd be camping out at doc for every spot on my body. I don't get blood bruises, but a couple friends do as their skin is a lot thinner.
I really appreciate everyone's input! So far no change. My plan is to wait until tomorrow morning to see if it fades any, if not then I will be on my way to a MedExpress or something similar. I'll make sure to come back and let ya'll know whats up.

OP - the answer you need to hear is in these responses. Since you're in a rural area, find the closest city with a dermatologist and make an appointment ASAP. This is nothing to screw around with - and none of the amateur doctors saying it looks like a pinch or a bug bite are going to be there for you if it turns out they're wrong.
