I'm not a germaphobe, never got into the sanitizers and have no desire to kiss an animal...guess I'm different...love different.....amazing we're all different and make it work for our lives. And thinking about this, those who are so "clean" also seem to get sick..

I've been enough doc's offices and Never gotten sick from those visits from the "germs".

Probably not a bad idea. I use disinfectant wipes on my tablet, phone and laptop keyboard a couple times a week. I also wash my hands fairly frequently, maybe more often than I might need to. This is probably a holdover from my years of working in the clinical microbiology lab.

LOL, well yanno, those dog germs are clean germs, so that's ok. I kiss our parakeet on the beak and her head, too, and she kisses me back, but her kisses are little dry ones.

I say it's the people...carrying those friendly germs

I try to feel sorry for germaphobes I really do.
I often think wow they got super duper exray microscopic vision to see those pesky little germs festering. What a burden to endure while the rest of us go about opening doors and sneezing into a hanker chief.

Your immune system gets a lot of practice and is ready to fight things off when needed. All the clean freaks and germaphobes will get violently ill from a simple cold since their immune system is weak.

I use hand sanitizer once in a while, but I don't make a daily habit out of it. I wash my hands after using the restroom or handling raw meat, but that's about it. No desire to kiss animals, but I will certainly pet them.

I would consider myself normal. I don't live in filth, or never wash my hands, but I'm also not trying to live in a plastic bubble because I'm afraid of dirt and germs.

ATMs, gas pumps, card readers, self-checkout screens, etc. All of those things probably have more bacteria on them than a toilet seat, because they are rarely cleaned and are used by many people who might not have clean hands.

The world is covered in germs. You can't avoid them. The good thing is, most are completely harmless and some are even beneficial to your health.

Whether at doctors' office or not, here are the precautions I do in general:

- ANY place where we have to use a writing pen for something, I try my best to whip out my own pen from my purse.

- Put my jacket/sweater OVER the armrests of chairs so my bare skin isn't touching it IF I'm not already wearing long sleeves. God knows what rash or warts someone had on their elbow/arms.

- I use those wipes to wipe shopping cart handles

- In public bathrooms, I squat above the toilet to use the restroom, I use my foot to flush it, & I use my paper towel that I used to dry my hands to open the door when I exit = My skin never touched a thing after I'm all done!

Other than that, I can't think of many other things other than the above that I actually touch while out in public.

BTW, I notice more & more grown adults (not just kids) who cough w/ their mouths uncovered & they seem to do it on purpose right when they pass by me when I'm out & about in public! Come on you stupid idiots, cover your mouths & teach your kids to too!

Yeah, I secretly laugh at DH with his door-handle paranoia. Using his sleeve or elbow to open doors yet when I met him, he lived in squalor with 7 filthy rescue dogs.

I don't do anything special in doctor's offices or hospitals.

DH is the "sick" one in the family, too.
