One week ago, last Friday evening, I had one of those tiny annoying gnats get stuck in my left eye. It was immediately painful and annoying, but I really didn't think much of it and figured it would be fine when I got up the next day. It wasn't. Although I woke up to find a bunch of crud around that eye - along with a tiny black thing that I assumed was ALL of the gnat, the irritation and itch and swelling has just continued to get worst and it has now been 1 week. My left eye is half-shut and constantly itchy. I was hoping that it would get better by itself but I am now getting more worried. As with all injuries and illnesses, going to see a doctor is out of the question with no health insurance (please avoid hijacking the thread and telling me all about free clinics, etc....THERE ARE NO OPTIONS. I have spent more time and effort that you can imagine looking into it). So I was wondering if anyone else had anything like this happen before and what you did to resolve the problem? There must be some part of the bug still in there. Everything I have read about eye infections say they are self-limiting but this is just getting worse - not better.
If there are no options, then no one here can help you. Seeing a professional is and getting medication is the only thing that will help. It's most likely infected and getting worse by the day.

It is always amazing to me that there is someone who wastes their - and everyone else's time - by responding with a pointless, useless, unhelpful post like this. My post asks if anyone else had anything like this happen to them - and what they did. It isn't that hard to comprehend.

What in the world do you expect anyone on a forum to do to to help your oozing infected eye? There's no miracle cures.
It's always enlightening to see the responses you get from people on here. I have dealt with multiple serious health emergencies over the last few years without being able to see a doctor. North Carolina has not expanded Medicaid. So for people like me, it is like living on a desert island. I have had recurring pneumonia with fevers of 104 lasting weeks, I have had broken bones, I have had an intestinal infection of some type that resulted in weeks of fever, diarrhea and nausea and a loss of 10 pounds, and many many more - and at no time ever was going to the doctor an option. Have you ever tried going to get medical care when you can't pay? Yeah, it doesn't work. Somehow people just don't understand that.

How about a visit to a walk-in clinic, such as they might have in a drug store near you? The service won't be free but they generally post their fees. At this point you may need an antibiotic, or an anti-inflammatory eyedrop, as well as a healthcare provider to check it out.
Whatever is in your eye might yet work itself out, with tearing or if you use artificial tear type eyedrops generously, but you may have scratched your cornea in trying to get that critter out, and especially if it's worse with time IMO a trip at least to a walk-in clinic might be a good idea.

and Dean, I am not trying to be mean nor is anyone else, but the fact remains there is not a thing any of us can do to help you. With no insurance the best you can hope for is talk to your pharmacist or better yet, with of without insurance head to urgent care. There is absolutely no other answers. If you can't do either, you will have to take your chances that it will heal itself, but that is a big gamble.
