I have had so many major surgeries in 77 yrs that I can't list them all. The most major was a lower back fusion followed by cervical fusion. I don't have nerve damage from any of them. I have nerve damage from ignoring my glucose level for far too long so my toes and feet are sorta numb. I live with it, nothing else to do.
I'm feeling enough angst and pain this morning due to 40 yrs of Sciatic nerve damage from hysterectomy in the 80's...I've had some years of relief but have been in a flair for a couple miserable years.
And the major nerve damage from hip replacement, right side of body is sore and pretty dead.
And believe nerve damage from knee arthroscopy clean out a couple yrs ago.
3 types of surgeries in my life and plenty of damage.
If one escapes nerve damage due to surgeries they are very fortunate.
Sorry to hear you're having a bad day jamin, It's one of the issues we grapple with in this country, how to deal with constant pain. when not to have surgery, when to have it.
I've been fortunate in my knee issues and I'm trying to stay ahead of the curve but who knows.
What was going on with your hip? Were you in a lot of pain, having limited mobility, etc., which caused you to get the hip replacement?
When I finally went to see the surgeon with groin pain, I saw a lot of what appeared to be jagged bones around the right groin area, left side was completely smooth. Now in hindsight I SHOULD have asked about other alternatives if they existed. I so trusted the surgeon....
There is a term I use for the jagged bones and the words escape me at the moment. Grrrrr
Ah, it came to me, I called these jagged bones, bone spurs.
We don't know anything until all is said and one as far as surgery is concerned.

wishing you better days ahead.
I was having a bad morning, we all have good and bad days...I'm just so thankful I did not go for a knee replacement as it's improving due to the "gel" I'm using...just telling my daughter this.
And I'm proud to say, I have not had so many surgeries, can't imagine anymore.

So a lot of surgeries and no nerve damage!!! Amazing...could be what you have is from some of the surgeries. I don't believe we know FOR SURE what is from what. Our body is full of nerves.

SBIU didn't mention foot surgery and certainly nerve pain in the feet is not unusual for diabetics...therefore I'd guess she is right that it's not due to surgery on another part of her body.
You have very specific things you blame for your ailments, purely anecdotally - it's not possible you'd be in even worse shape without the surgeries? You couldn't have been doing too great or you'd not had them to begin with? I'm sorry ALL of your surgeries went so badly - what are the odds?

Nothing amazing about people having a lot of surgeries and never having any complications or nerve injury....
Complications are RARE.
Nerve injuries following most surgeries are RARE.
SouthernBelle told you that the neuropathy which she does suffer from is due to diabetes, unfortunately, NOT RARE.
Apparently YOU always seem to know "what is from what" ie: your homeopathic gel is "fixing" your knees, your GSE has prevented all sorts of ailments...
Yet apparently other people aren't allowed to know "what is from what"

Interesting.....
Oh you know all the answers....RARE. At least I'm not gunhoe to cut up my body.
My GSE has kept me from sickness, I'm never sick and thanks to my strong immune system.

Very sorry to hear this. Reminds me of a former neighbor of mine. She went in for hip surgery and came out an invalid due to a major stroke while in surgery.
