Coke is a horrific swill (arms, birth, healthy, children)

Not everything we do is our parents fault.....that’s silly. Organic juice isn’t much better...drinking water & having an apple or orange would be better....
I had a roomie in my 20s that drank lots of soda tho....& then I started the bad habit....
I don’t buy it or drink it anymore......I’ve been cola free for about 3 years.
I understand this is the Health and Wellness board, and of course everyone knows that soft drinks in high doses are not healthy. But come on now people. Some may be fine with a diet of kale and water but many of us enjoy other things to consume and again if it's in moderation I won't apologize for enjoying a Coke now and then. It's great with bourbon.
Next time you have some Coke around, I don't think it matters whether it's diet or regular? try pouring some on the street, close to your house and just leave it there to evaporate.
I wouldn't want you to stain or ruin your sidewalk or patio.
All that said, the phosphoric acid will not kill you, I am testament to that. I drank many many gallons of it in my lifetime.
The acidity (pH) of Coca-Cola is very similar to that of lemon juice - right around 2.35 which, coincidentally, is also very similar to a 5% acetic acid solution (aka, vinegar). Both of which are readily consumable and generally harmless. Do not confuse or, even worse, conflate acidity and chemical action of one substance on another. If you do, you must simply be horrified of what water can do to steel and many other rock-solid minerals.
Coke contains a combination of two acids which are carbonic and phosphoric, both of which happen to be pretty decent surfactants due to there anionic nature. This characteristic has literally nothing to do with a substance's acidity outside of the anionic nature of them. Surfactants in the presence of water (a very universal solvent) are pretty good at loosening dirt and grease. If this also frightens you to the point of delirium, you should be downright petrified at the thought of soap - another very common surfactant. FYI - Citric acid in the presence of a fat (e.g., common kitchen grease) will carboxylize and create very good emulsifier. Yeah, science!!!!
By the way, that "mandatory" list is essentially 70% idiotic.

I grew up on Coke and iced tea (I'm from the South). I don't drink as much Coke as I used to as I can't have high fructose corn syrup - so I get the Mexican Coke in bottles made with real sugar. I don't drink much - as I'ev gotten older, a little sugar goes a long way. But I still love it and will have an average of 1 a week. Still drinking the iced tea though.
Here's a tip - if you don't like it, don't drink it.
I stopped drinking soda with phosphoric acid years ago.... It is horrible! (Like aspertame)
I had a chemistry teacher who announced that phosphoric acid dissolves calcium. She then went around, confiscated the Lipton iced teas, coca colas, etc., off students who left them on their desks. The look of "WTF?" on their faces made my day

You DO get used to it. Case in points:
I hate exercising, but doing a bit every other day is a good place to start
Someone who may be used to buying Starbucks every day can start small and buying only every other day. Saves a lot of money over the years
etc.
