I do have white coat syndrome. My first BP reading at the dr can go as high as 180/110 but at the end comes down to 130/85 or less. I hadn’t checked it in a while. I sat down at home and took it right away it was 175/97. I waited a few minutes and took it 2 more times. 147/95 and then 135/85. Could that be the same as being nervous about how high it would be and I didn’t give myself a chance to sit a calm down? I know the dr said to sit for 10 minutes before you take it.
I wonder also. My blood pressure had always been “normal” 120/70 plus or minus. A few years ago my regular doc heard a very slight murmur so he put me on a light dose of med to lower it further. I’m now usually about 116/60 when ever I go in. However, I had to go in for a check up at a different place and she took 4 readings, the lowest was 130 something over 80 something. Go figure.
I’ve been reading though that the old “normal” needs to be lowered so it sounds like yours is high, regardless of which values are used.
Sounds a bit high. Since you have a home monitor, keep taking it regularly and recording results.
It's not necessary to be sitting for 10 minutes before taking, IMO. Active BP won't be that much higher than rest, unless perhaps one is in very poor physical condition.
That's on the high side. When I have BP changes (running higher or lower overall), I start tracking it 3 times a day for around a month before I take action. If I change my meds dosage I track for 3 months.

This issue is one of the most baffling one out there. Then we're told it's the silent killer. More fear by the industry I keep thinking. My relatives all probably took a "little pill" and none had monitors doing their BP at home. And they ate everything, salt, sugars, carbs.... For some time yrs ago I took BP all the time, recording numbers, and what I ate and what I was thinking, dreams, it's nuts. And sure makes one nuts, me anyway. Of course, I have a lot of distrust on the drug industry.
And I wouldn't doubt if everyone has white coat issues when getting their BP done at doc's office and end up on BP drugs pretty quickly, it's taken some time on my part to figure this out when I was new at this one.

Taking my BP doesn't make me nuts. Takes about 1 min. What a strange thing to put down.

I'm happy to hear that Mikala. We all have different rhythms in our lives. And yes FOR ME, and years of this issue, it does make me nuts. The Silent Killer???? I feel fine but have those 3 words in my old mind put fear in me.

It shouldn't. It just means it is a deadly condition with no symptoms.

I'll keep thinking about my line of relatives before I entered and their long lives ....and they didn't live with monitors hooked up at home. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's called silent killer because it has no symptoms, and it kills you. If you want to live the rest of your life paralyzed from a stroke, it can do that for you too.
You don't "live with monitors hooked up at home." That's a ridiculous thing to say...taking your blood pressure is very easy, takes about a minute, and is a smart thing to do.
grrrrrrrrrrrr?
