Sounds like you saved the gallbladder, that darn herbologist, saved a part that has a purpose we are born with. good.
absolutely. i've never had surgery and fortunately don't need drugs for anything. so many people are drug dependent these days. and have body parts removed for no valid reason!
A friend's MD had her popping Tums to get her calcium intake...bad bad advice. The women ended up with calcium deposits on her thyroid and ended up having at least half of her thyroid removed...bad advice from the allopathic world...
Do your research on probiotics and antioxidants and gerd/reflux issues...you will find a lot of good info.
That is a medical horror story, all she was doing was following her doctor's advice and it got her to a really bad place. I think we should do our own research and this is the best time, people have so much access to information and knowledge is power and within reach (although we have to be careful with some of the information and the sources). Remember how we would go to the doctor and he would say you need to work on this or do this, and then if we were even motivated to do our own research our only sources would be family, friends or the health books at the library, some of which have been there for years and with med stuff new information and developments happen daily. I am going to check into the probiotics and antioxidants, I was meaning to check on probiotics for the longest time because it would be so easy, some yogurts at the supermarket have great probiotics.

Don't skrimp on quality, give your body a good loading.
I have GERD and use a combination of diet/lifestyle and on occasion medication to help with symptoms.
This is what I do:
1. No bending over or lying down after meals.
2. No BIG meals. I try to eat smaller meals
3. No soda, coffee, etc.
4. No acidic or spicy foods.
5. No garlic or onions.
I bought the Acid Watcher book. I highly recommend it. It is very strict. But it was the best medical advice I have been given. And I've see three GI specialists and been scoped.
You brought up something I have worried about as I notice I am increasing my usage of Tums as I get older and have more acid reflux. I take no more than two Tums a day if I need it, but I have heard that popping Tums like a lot of people tend to do during the day can cause kidney problems due to the high calcium and also the calcium interferes with bone stuff, not sure how, maybe because of higher levels, also it does something to the bacteria in your stomach. Acid in your stomach supposedly fights the bad bacteria in the gut and Tums interferes with that. I am trying to change my diet rather than resort to Tums, I am thinking Tums are like bandaids really, it doesn't get rid of the source of the problem but just gets rid of it temporarily.
Exactly, and the same is true of prilosec and other such meds.
It's not fun to stop eating things you've enjoyed all your life, but the fact is that the world is full of tasty food. Get out and explore. You wouldn't stay married to someone who was trying to kill you, would you?
Coffee is very acidic, but I drink coffee still. I've found low acid coffee's and haven't had a problem with it. My main problem presently is choking. Does anyone else have this problem? It's not on the inside but on the outside of my neck.

It isn't fun to start saying no to delicious things, but you gave a good analogy. Just as food can heal, it can also kill, may take a little longer and make one suffer for a while, too.
I used to get Acid reflux until i started using a product called Nexium, taken when needed i havent had a bout of acid reflux in 5 years.
