Hospice sent someone to our home a few times a week to check my husband's vitals and manage his medication and oxygen since he had lung cancer. Other than that my son and I were his caregivers. When he got to the point where we couldn't care for him any longer he was moved to a Hospice Facility which had beautiful rooms and waiting areas. He was aware the first few days of everything but after 4 days there it was a waiting game. The worst 8 days of my life. He had Medicare & Tricare and we were never charged for anything.
I've never heard of 24/7 home hospice care, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I've just never heard of it.
In-home 24/7 hospice care does exist. Most people can't afford it out-of-pocket, and most insurance won't pay for it, so many hospice organizations don't offer it.
People keep talking as if all hospice everywhere is exactly the same. IT'S NOT. You need to check with your local organization(s) to find out what is on offer.
There are many separate hospice organizations. My neighbor is a hospice nurse with one I hadn't heard of. Another hospice nurse friend has worked for two - one a different independent hospice, and her current one which is part of our very large regional hospital group which has locations all over Northern California.
None of them are affiliated but all provide similar care with the same parameters.
Granted, but this is the same organization in the same city that others known to me - and some close to me - have used, and 24-hour nursing care was NOT included in any of those cases.

????? So because one hospice organization doesn't offer it, that means that none do?????
