I've found that the sound of the furnace turning on and off disturbs my sleep in the colder months. Last year I bought a white noise machine and it helps immensely.

Also, ~1 time a week I use a substance that is newly legal in my state. I sleep like a rock on those nights.

10 hours?? That's nearly one half of every day.

There are too many things to do, think, learn, experience, to let that much irrecoverable time go. Even now that my time is basically my own I couldn't make myself sleep that long at a time unless I was really sick. 7-8 hours is more than enough. If you are someone who's preoccupied with longevity, studies show people who sleep between 7-9 hours live the longest.

Typically on workdays, I go to sleep around the same time, and I have no problems passing out and get my full 7 hours and I need it because I need to do my job.

About a month ago, we started turning the heat on. I woke up after the 2nd cycle with my sinuses clogged and couldn't go back to sleep, so started using a humidifier. It helped a little. One night it poured, and there was so much humidity in the room, I was sick for a week.

So, now it's freezing and the heat is really on. The dry nose problem went away, but now I'm waking up after the 2nd cycle and I cannot go back to sleep. I've tried adjusting the temperature both cold and hot, and its still difficult to go back to sleep.

Anyone else having/have this problem. I have all these little sleep problems and it's a little maddening. I mean, if the body needs sleep to operate well, why can't we just SLEEP!
sorry you are having problems sleeping. For me, it is the opposite, I have more trouble waking up and not going back to sleep in the summer. we keep the heat at 68 during the winter. All I have to do is pull the coers up and I sleep fine even when I have to get up to use the bathroom I go right back to sleep. At least I normally do.

Thanks for the responses all.

So, Friday night, I took a suggestion and bought natural sleeping pills and prostate max/beta/etc.

Strangely enough, I didn't sleep at ALL. And I had to take an ambien. And I had to wake up like 6 times to pee, lol.

Saturday night same thing.

I was starting to wonder if I would ever naturally sleep again in my life, and I felt like I might become one of those people who have to take prescription sleeping pills nightly to sleep.

Then, Sunday night was fine.

Monday night was also pretty good despite getting hit with some really bad life news, I surprisingly still slept OK.

And yesterday was almost 10 hours of good sleep.

Strange...
