Sulfates are often a problem... they really dry out and irritate your scalp/skin if you have sensitive skin. I don’t know why medicated shampoos have them.

I have rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disorder. My doctor says it's seborrhea, but he basically has just looked at it and declared that's what it is. I am not so sure.

Yesterday, I noticed I am getting a bald spot near my forehead. I am pretty sure that the hair loss is from me scratching to try to get some relief from the horrible itching.
I was in this forum looking for a dry skin body wash...and found this thread....

I to have had the very same problem, but all over my head...and hair loss....my doctor also said it was seborrhea, (it isn't dandruff) and perscribed a prescription hair shampoo which dried it out and my scalp got fire red and itched worse, then she told me to use head and shoulders, which did the same thing, it's not dandruff, if I try and go a day without washing my hair, it smells and the only way I can describe it, is, its an old lady smell which is very strong...

I've tried several different shampoos, tried just using water....doesn't work and the itching is terrible. Ive even tried messaging creams into my scalp at night....

and yes, the itching is horrible...you are not alone....
I to, do not know what to do, and the skin specialist doesn't know either....I'm thinking its an allergic reaction b/c I have so many allergies, especially since moving to Kentucky.

So I will be following this thread as well....

I did order something off of Amazon, in despiration called, Ooh dry itchy scalp relief, you message into the scalp, it smells like peppermint, and it does help, but, you have to wash it out, due to the smell....
and it is no longer for sale, so I will be trying something different....

I’ve never been diagnosed but I have a pretty bad scalp condition. I develop thick scaly scabs that itch and bleed when scab is removed or scratched. I’ve tried all the usual shampoos with no relief. What has helped the most is Scalpacin with hydrocortisone. Since using this my scaling has reduced greatly as well as the itching. I’ve even tried not shampooing my hair but that was some VERY bad advice because it got infinitely worse. I briefly turn the bottle upside down then right side up again, place tip near ear and begin turning to open while gently squeezing the bottle listening for the air leaving the tip. Once I hear the air, I give it another slight turn to open and begin applying to problem areas. Once done I turn bottle back right side up, give it a few squeezes to clear the tip, and close. Comb or brush hair afterwards to help distribute the medicine on the scalp.

You can try tea tree oil products. I’ve had good luck with OGX, but am trying one from Trader Joe’s now. Briogeo also has a line of products, but they tend to be pricy. I think OGX and Briogeo both have products you can massage into the scalp, but I find those are best only when you have patches of issues and not a whole scalp.

Wounded Spirit
I just purchased
Aveeno Rose Water & Chamomile Blend Sulfate-Free Shampoo with Colloidal Oat for Dry & Sensitive Scalp, Gentle Cleansing Shampoo for Fine, Fragile Hair, Paraben & Dye-Free, 12 Fl Oz off of Amazon, yesterday, and tried it this morning, and so far so good, but, that doesn't always prove that it's going to work, b/c I've tried several products that worked for a while and then stopped....so I'll come back and let you know...

Note: I've noticed lately some of the problem is nerves, b/c when I'm watching a suspenseful movie on TV, I start scratching my head, which aggrivates it...so maybe you might want to take note to see if the same happens to you.

Good Luck....it is very aggrivating.

Hello, since my last post, I ordered Aveeno Shampoo Scalp care, Rose Water & Chamomile Blend Sulfate-Free Shampoo with Colloidal Oat for Dry & Sensitive Scalp, Gentle Cleansing Shampoo for Fine, Fragile Hair, Paraben & Dye-Free, 12 Fl Oz There is some relief...

I have belonged to a Raw diet Forum for about 10 years, and in there many people spoke of using Colliodal on their dogs for many different allergies, scrathing, etc....I noted today that Aveeno sells a Shampoo with Colliodal in it....and that is what I'm going to purchase next.

But did order Colliodal soap, from Amazon, b/c my skin is like allegator skin....already and it's not even that cold yet.

Also ordered, this....which I also intend to try, since flu season is upon us...
Sovereign Silver Bio-Active Silver Hydrosol for Immune Support - Colloidal Silver - 10 ppm, 16oz (473mL) - Economy Size from Amazon....

I'm not a doctor, so I am not saying you should try this, but i've read the reviews, and like I said, many people used Colloidal Silver on their skin problems and dog problems, sore paws, one woman had been bitten by a spider and she used this...others use it for UTI's etc....so I suggest before purchasing if you chose to go this route, please do your homework and research it.

I'll come back and let you know....

Has anyone tried something that actually works? I have tried OTC shampoo and the prescription shampoo with no luck.
Have you had a lot of antibiotics? Take caprylic acid and probiotics. Even once or twice can be problematic.

I'm back, and sharing a positive experience with Aveeno Rose Water and Chamomile shampoo. 1ST day wasn't much of an improvement, 2nd and 3rd day, minor itching, 4th day hardly any itching to present day, the itching is gone! I have had this problem for 3 years with hair loss. I read somewhere to make certain you rinse your hair well so Even though My hair is short I spend much more time under the shower rinsing. Love this shampoo, got it from Amazon and plan to order body wash for dry skin.

I must admit, I've been making bone broth in my instapot which is loaded with Collegen, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Don't give up, I know what your going through, keep trying different products

Good luck.

I have very soap-sensitive skin and scalp. I don't have much hair on my head at age 67, so I cut it short with a hair trimmer, about 1 or 2 mm long. I also don't use shampoo, I just wash the scalp with cool or luke-warm water every day. A couple of times per week I use a washcloth on the scalp with warm water to stimulate and exfoliate the skin.
