The infectious diseases used to be one of the major causes of death in the past.
The advances in medical sciences, research and diagnostics, the vast improvements in waste and garbage handling infrastructure, changes in hygiene standards, pests control, developments of some vaccines seem to put the issues of infectious diseases on the “back burner” of our collective mind.
The fact that as of now we don’t even have a subthread on CD devoted to infectious diseases is telling.
However, the surge in population growth, travel and globalization leading to an almost unimpeded free movement of masses of people around the globe, wide spread use of blood transfusions as well as changes in the climate leading to an expansion of zoonotic vector of the infectious diseases brought out the problem of the infectious diseases to the forefront.
The examples of some of the infectious diseases, some of which have no cure
Pneumonia, HIV, hepatitis A,B and C, measles, Lyme disease, babesiosis, prion diseases, all sexually transmitted diseases, norovirus, cytomegalovirus, SARS, MERS, Ebola, COVID-19, etc
The latest novel corona virus COVID-19 seem to be another dangerous new infectious disease as the treatment demands the enormous medical resources of the society.
We should create a subthread for every infectious disease that affected your life so you can share your experiences in what have led you in getting sick, how you were diagnosed, the treatments and side effects, the outcome and the changes in your life.

interesting....it would have to absolutely EXCLUDE any mention of vaccines or immunizations though...otherwise it'd turn nasty and be shut down.
I'd be interested though, in hearing about how people were diagnosed and how they dealt with an infectious disease.
