A 7-year-old South Carolina girl died one minute into surgery to remove her tonsils, her parents told CNN affiliate WHNS.

Paisley Cogsdill snored in her sleep but was perfectly healthy, relatives said, according to WHNS. But her heart suddenly stopped during the operation in Greenwood on Friday.

Very sad. Could happen to anyone. Even partial anesthesia is a risk, that's why you sign all those consent forms, and why docs will refuse to perform surgery at all on some patients.

The medical industry is a big failure based on dangerous, unnecessary surgeries, drugs, etc., etc. Avoid a hospital at all costs unless you break your leg. Most people don't need their tonsils removed. Just a way to generate $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. That's why medical malpractice lawyers exist. To bring these criminals to justice.

As a person who is alive today because of modern medical technology, I think this is an overly grim statement.

Life cannot be made 100% risk-free. Even, sadly, for 7-year-olds. And bad things don't happen only to other people.

This case is news because it is a RARE outcome.

Most people don't get their tonsils removed! Tonsillectomies aren't performed routinely any more but only when medically indicated. I don't think you can jump to the conclusion that this child died from an unnecessary procedure.

People always want to judge people for the go fund me amount. 45k is a lot more than a funeral costs. But is it not that much once they pay for the funeral, any lingering bills, as well as allow the parents to take the time they need to grieve off work. I lost my mother young but my grandmother lost her baby. Losing ones child is the worst pain a parent can experience and i know if something happened to my child, it would miss a lot of income and i dont have PTO and Vacation.

Have a little compassion. Or dont. You dont have to donate.

Most people who break their leg don't need a hospital either. Thousands of people break bones and never set foot (pun intended) in a hospital. Anyone who knows how to evaluate and immobilize a fracture could splint it.

How sad. Horrible. I wonder what happened. If she had an undetected heart issue, or if the anesthetic was too strong or something like that.

Surgeries are so common now that we forget that it's dangerous for anyone to be operated on or go under anesthesia.
