As far as I know, this virus came from just one person in Wuhan. So even if we are on the downside due to social distancing, isn’t it true that once we calm the virus down that it can be spread like wildfire again from just one person?

I’ve always wondered this. I mean you look at how many deaths there were 2 weeks ago compared to now and it’s unbelievable. What this tells me is that the virus can’t be stopped. Unless every person in the world quarantines for a month, I don’t see how the virus can stop. 1 turns into 2, then 4, etc... Exponential growth doesn’t just stop.

That’s why it amazes me how Florida can just open. We have more deaths than ever now. All it takes is one person and we have hundreds of thousands that are spreading.

I guess it’s over once everyone has had it, but then the virus mutates.

Am I wrong here? Are we doomed?

Your observation is true that it's a 1 to 5 ratio.
Your wrong that 'we' are doomed.

I take this pandemic seriously .

Certain areas in this vast nation where it's remote are not being hit with this. So social distancing has been away of life for decades.

Until we get nationwide testing ...and can have a clearer
Grasp of carriers and recovery methods. It is ludicrous to open Pandoras box ...then have to mitigate again .

It's been three weeks for some folks having to adjust . And already protests are erupting. That's the sad part.
Be safe....not sorry.
Some ppl didn't get the wake up call to sanitize and distance. That's the ones that are unwittingly carrying it and being part of the problem to isolate.

I'm praying at the same time hoping we restrict certain activities til better medicines are available to help. Never mind that our hospitals still are under supplied for the waves that still hit in metro areas....

Hundreds of thousands of people die/very seriously injured in car accidents each year, yet we don't ban cars. If we did, we would save all of those lives. What's the difference? Thousands of people, mostly children, die in swimming pools each year. But we don't ban pools.
There is risk in everything. More people die of the flu each year than this. We don't shut down the country over the flu.
You mitigate the risk, and move on.
If you don't want to accept the risk, then stay home.

Freedom is more important than safety.

Our freedom has been taken away in the name of safety.

Spottednikes.

The war in Vietnam killed about 57,000 Americans over the period of more than a decade...In less than 2 months ( as of today ) 38,000 Americans have died from coronavirus. At what point will you admit that this is the MOST serious medical emergency that the entire WORLD has ever seen ? And remember that the second wave is just beginning to be seen in the 54 countries in Africa, where the WHO predicts three hundred thousand deaths in the next 6 months. IN this age of world wide air travel an infected person can be anywhere on the globe in 24 hours. Nowhere in the world is " safe ".

Combine the deaths in America, with the economic disaster that lies ahead. The cohort of young Americans who are now age 18 to 30, will probably never recover in terms of their future income. The people who were just getting by living week to week, will now be living under a bridge, and there will be millions of them. The tipping point will come when the national unemployment rate in the USA reaches 20 percent, which was the number in 1933 in America.

So what to do ? This won't be solved with guns or religious panic. The ignorant, the willfully arrogant, the muleheaded will help to kill your country. The educated medical spokespersons are being ignored.. and its going to cost you millions in the end, both in terms of dollars and people's lives.

The push to " reopen America " is absolutely the wrong thing to do. But it will happen, because the all mighty buck is going to override intelligence, once again.

To me the USA is like a huge dinosaur that was the strongest and most powerful creature in the jungle...but now it's mired in the swamp and it can't get out, no matter how much it roars and bellows . Thrashing and struggling against a unseen but deadly foe. The mighty are falling.

Not proven yet. Cannot be proven EVER.

There are 2 ICD codes that allow for counting coronavirus deaths.

We will never have an accurate count of deaths, ever, because of this.

Even Dr Birx said if a person who died has coronavirus, that death can be counted as due to coronavirus, even if it was NOT the cause of death.

So we will never, ever know.

Want to bankrupt your neighbor, your SIL, your child over a number that can never be proved?

Exactly.

People don't want freedom. They want to be children, told what to do by mommy and daddy govt. They don't question it. Just obey and comply, hoping for that hot fudge sundae they were promised after they ate their dinner.

What percent of those 57,000 American soldiers killed in Vietnam were 79 years old with heart disease, lung disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or cancer prior to being killed?

The only reason our country is in trouble right now is because our leaders made the mistake of taking economic advice from medical experts who clearly had no clue about how our economy works.

We shouldn't allow economists to perform surgery on people. Nor should we allow medical doctors to perform surgery on our economy. Both are likely to screw up the job that they aren't qualified for.

Age 21 or age 79, they are still just as dead. You want to argue the numbers ? Have fun.

I'm not arguing numbers. I'm simply showing how unrelated the numbers comparison is between soldiers getting killed in war and old people with one or more preexisting medical conditions succumbing to a virus. If you think those two are analogous situations, well...
