I am not sure I trust injecting myself or my family with anything that scientists say generally takes years to develop - at a rush may take 18 months - but Trump is forcing through by January (by November's election perhaps)? We have no way of knowing WHAT is in it (Lysol perhaps?) or WHAT tests were done and the long term (maybe even short term) repercussions may be worse than the disease itself.

If they rush out with a vaccine - would you take it and give it to your family?

I don't believe in many vaccines (some, but not all), but the reason is not religious - it is more to do with personal rights and liberties. I don't want a governmental third party mandating what to inject into my body.

Not just no, but heck to the no. And I can't vote twice, but my husband has already said no way is he taking some rushed-out vaccine.

The date the vaccine is ready isn't important by itself. I certainly wouldn't brush it off if it was developed later this year if the majority of experts felt its safety and efficacy had been proven, nor would I jump to get in line if there were lingering doubts. I wouldn't pay any attention at all to what Trump said about the matter. he has the science mind of a toddler.

I'm not an anti-vaccine dude (I get a flu shot every year- no problems ever, so far).

But I will not get a COVID vaccine during the first wave. Perhaps the following year, perhaps never.

I think the vaccine being developed in the UK sounds promising. They said they might even know by June or July. They have a head start and a decent track record because they'd already been developing vaccines by similar methods for diseases like MERS and Ebola. They're doing human trials already.

At my age, I want a vaccine badly and I'd be more willing to trust this UK vaccine than something developed in the US. I don't trust the US as much as I used to anyway.

A vaccine shouldn’t be available until/unless proper studies have been done. That takes time.

It is frightening to think of any antivax nitwits getting any steam. Period. Let the protocols proceed as they need to. It’ll likely take longer than any of us wants (well, except for oddballs who have weird delusions that not only harm themselves and their families, but harm/kill others).

Sure, a vaccine will likely be imperfect, particularly early on. So? Debate me.

Raise your hand if you are pro-polio! Anyone? Bring it. Gee, where is FDR when you need him?

Sadly, the US is led by bipartisan buffoonery. All that matters is maintaining personal wealth among themselves.

Nope.

Never take a med that hasn't been on the market for at least 5 years.

I don't understand people that do. And in this case? Not scared of COVID. At all. Don't fall into any of the high risk groups and do not see a point in getting a vaccine for something that is MILD. Happy to let my immune system do what it's supposed to do and gain immunity naturally.

So ... double nope for me.

So, Imperfect how? Say its 50% effective with little side effects like a flu shot, I could live with that. But if causes side effects in a larger percentage of people than would likely have serious symptoms from covid-19 or makes the virus stronger in those who catch it. Rushing a vaccine by skipping some of the necessary steps is scary.
