because the patient will come back 1 yr later when they have a stroke blaming it all on the doc

and this way docs dont have to write every single time in their notes they are telling pts to take asa

they are not forcing you to buy it , i never got my parents as a prescription

dont pick it up have the pharmacy return it

Makes sense. You're reminding me to call hospital to find out exactly what tests were given to my husband since I've found their records to be wrong before. The doc had hospital call in prescriptions to pharmacy. Doctors are in a hurry today and yes, have to protect themselves from lawsuits if possible, so that's probably one way.

also, there is a belief that patients are more likely to take prescribed meds than otc

A family members heart doctor told him that the 81mg aspirin (baby aspirin) sold at the local dollar stores are just as good as the local pharmacies.

I just checked ebay as I shop often there and save nice $$$

And remember on the D you get from the doc's scripts, you are getting D2 the less effective D...I stay away from docs advice and have been for many years....do my own work.

You'll have to ask your doctor

AND, in all the years that I practiced retail pharmacy 1967-80 and 2000-2016 with probably a year, or so, of as needed relief work in the middle just to keep involved, I would ALWAYS tell the patient that a less expensive alternative, or OTC was available, ALWAYS!

So, maybe ask your pharmacist and then change pharmacies

With cheap drugs like that, you are hitting the minimum dispensing cost. It costs pharmacies about $10 to fill a prescription.
Per the ACA, non- Medicare plans have to cover Aspirin. The aspirin and other otcs a pharmacy might dispense aren't anything special.

The visiting nurse said my husband had covid test at hospital. He said he did not. She said yes, it's here on the hospital record. Again, he said no, I did not have the test. So I finally called hospital to ask for records. They gave them to me. Nothing about the test. So I called the agency to check it out as to why the nurse said it was on the chart. The agency (associated with the hospital) said that he didn't have test but was declared as negative at the hospital. Although the nurse was wrong. But because the chart said negative, the nurse insisted he did have the test because it said CV negative. It's hard to figure. The coordinator said she would reinstruct the nurse. (Huh?)

my best guess is it's the only way their inadequate software has of documenting what meds you are counseled to take.

sure, the info can be put in a progress note but that guarantees it will be missed so it gets put into your medication list and results in an rx getting sent to the pharmacy.
