What's your take on a reasonable wait time at at doctor's office. I'm seeing a new Doc and the two visits were each an hour's wait.

Is this the norm?

Or?

What do you think is reasonable?

There is no norm, I've waited an hr at some ortho offices and 10 minutes at my General Doc's office. A lot can depend on all the work the docs do, they can be surgeons as well and stuck in surgery situations. I always arrive early enough and in my mind prepared to wait if I have to.

Such a great question. I have always wondered this as well. My DH used to “check in” and then tell the front desk to phone him when they were ready. He told them he wanted to wait in his car because he was fearful of infections from sick patients in the waiting room. He actually would go to the nearest Starbucks. But they always did text or call him. However once, when he had to wait about 2 hours for a Doc that always took too long, he told his Doctor he was fired.

I always make an early morning appt for the dr and the dentist.

The later in the day, the longer the waits because of incremental delays.

Urgent Care visits are you get what you get.

It all depends on how the doctor manages his appointments. One doctor I go to the wait is about 15 minutes. Another one it is about 35-40 minutes. Another one it is an hour.

I agree with scheduling early in day to avoid long waits.

After waiting eight months to get the appointment, the waiting room was about thirty minutes. Then putting up with the nasty comments from the GED office workers when I asked for copies of what I electronically signed.

The last wait was tough. Stuck in the little exam room-all reading materials removed because of Covid. Left my book and cell phone in the car. Guess I don't deal well with being isolated in a small room with no distractions. I was ready to bolt when the Doc showed up...
