So, the cortisone shots and pain relievers have come to an end.
My podiatrist is refusing to give me anymore shots for heel bone spurs. Surgery is strongly recommended.
If you've had this surgery how long was recovery and are you glad you went through the process?

My right foot is pretty arthritic and will never do cortisone injections, these cause more destruction of the joints. I use topicals, Topricin is my favorite and wear an ankle support and can't imagine a foot surgery. Thank goodness I'm my age and don't need to be out in the maddening world.

And on how long would recovery be, never know until it's done...and then of course it can't be reversed, so we have to live with what we get. Good luck.

I have had heel spurs removed from both feet. The surgeries were years apart by different surgeons, each foot needed one or more additional procedures (releasing the plantar tendon, moving and re-attaching another tendon to a different bone, re-aligning a toe...) so I can't give you an exact recovery timeline. I seem to recall being totally non-weight bearing for a week or so, then wore a removable supportive boot for about 6 weeks. Pain was mostly gone before the 6 weeks had passed, but I wasn't walking without pain for a couple of months. No complications from surgery. I have not had any recurring problems over the last 20 years. Of course, this is anecdotal. Depending on what your problems happen to be, YMMV.

Thanks for correcting me. I still would not do surgery. I'm sure one can google foot spurs alternative to surgery...

OP: Here is some good info...
