My cousin (less than 70) just died of colon cancer. Been a vegan all his adult life, not sure if he went to doctors but I sort of doubt it. It ran in his family. You can't escape genetics.
The last one I had was done in 2007. It was not a good experience and I don't plan on having it done again. It took them forever to find a vein being it was freezing cold in there plus it took them a long time to wake me up. They finally had to bring my wife in there to talk to me and try to get me to wake up. She was scared.
My only suggestion is that there have been advancements since 2007. Mine was a breeze. I remember taking my mom to one in 2007 and yes... that was NOT a breeze. There have been changes in equipment and procedures and even the prep. I had zero problem with the prep I had. You can even get it done now with out anesthesia. I ended up having a low level anesthesia that would keep me awake and lessen the pain. I felt almost nothing the entire time and was pretty bright eyed and bushy tailed when they rolled me out.

That's good news. Maybe your reassurance will help convince a few people who are afraid, or reluctant to get colonoscopies but really need to, to go ahead and do it.
I just simply can not believe folks would even consider this. I would not get this done even if they paid me like 1 million cash.
I take care of myself though. I am 56 years old.
I would not get any of the scope "jobs" and would NOT tell anyone else not to, and I take good care of my health and I've reached 82 and no scopes in me. I trust I'm fine with all the good stuff I take. My daughter had too many done starting in her 40's and she talks regrets and what she didn't know and trusted docs...
My Dad died from colon cancer. He rarely went to doctors. I wish he had listened to the nurse who asked if he had one and told him that he should. Ironically, he encountered this nurse while picking up my brother from his colonoscopy which was about 5 years before it was too late for my Dad. My brothers and I get one about every 5 years due to my Dad having it. It's not that bad. For us it is worth that tiny chance that something will go wrong.
I haven't read thru the entire thread, but if it hasn't been brought up yet, at least take the ColoGuard test if you're just too scared of the colonscopy.
