How long to wait for a minor surgery in Florida?
What is the normal wait time? is 2 months normal?
From the time the specialist determines that you need a surgery, until you actually get the surgery scheduled and performed. I was told 4 weeks ago that i need a minor surgery. It seems like they are having difficulties putting people on the schedule. For example if the surgery is september 10th, they could say today that the surgery will be september 10th. But instead they say they will call me few weeks from now, that time they will tell me when the surgery will be, probably another few weeks after that.
I am in pain all day, every day, a 30 min procedure could end that, but they refuse to do it NOW. It is not that it hurts when i do x activity or something, it is 24/7 pain.
NOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNO WNOW
Why is there a 1-2 month wait time for this in the united states? We don't even have government healthcare, but they are still rationing it?
Health-Don't-Care instead of healthcare.

Of course you provided no pertinent details (your chosen provider or the hospital they happen to have privileges with, your specific health insurance provider) to even guess the reason YOU are seeing a delay. What about ordinary supply and demand? FL's a populated state. Oh yeah, another possibility. You have heard there's a pandemic going on right? Things are changing by the second. Might have something to do with it.

There is a pandemic. Florida has few hospital beds right now and the governor could decide to stop elective surgeries at any time to free up those beds for COVID-19 patients. It makes no sense to be scheduling surgeries 2 months out if the surgeries might not happen. My dad had a surgery this week (in FL), but I am not sure how far out it was scheduled. I heard about it a few weeks ago, so I don’t think it was scheduled that far in advance. He had to get the COVID-19 test a few days before that and no relatives were allowed in the hospital.

The reality is that doctors need to leave room for emergency surgeries and other surgeries that aren’t immediate emergencies, but need to happen right away for someone’s health and safety. It may be something they need to schedule in the next week or two but the person won’t die if they don’t do it today. I know of this happening for someone who broke a bone that needed to be reset via surgery. They couldn’t do it the same day and she had to wait several days. Obviously this isn’t something you can wait months to do, but you aren’t going to die if you don’t do it immediately.

Florida has a major doctor shortage. There was a long time when Florida’s population was exploding, but Florida was not expanding the number of medical schools or residency programs. When I finished school, the options were UF/USF/Miami. USF started in the early ‘70s, and then FSU didn’t open until 2000 and was a pretty big deal. The reality is that you aren’t going to be able to get a surgery immediately. It is going to take a while to find a good/experienced surgeon and then get your surgery scheduled.

I already had a consultation with a specialist a few weeks ago. It is the actual surgery scheduling that is held up. I don't know whether he is the surgeon as well, or is it someone else.

A lot of people would like to move to Florida, but they cannot, because they cannot find a job in their profession. Apparently if there is a doctor shortage, then doctors should be able to find a job here.

Well, maybe there aren't that many doctors who want to move their practice to or live in a hot, humid, hurricane target like Florida! Money doesn't motivate everyone equally.

It really depends on the circumstances. I recently had minor surgery (carpal tunnel surgery) 10 days after the Ortho doc recommended it-this for post-wrist break CTS that wouldn't go away and was affecting the hand and finger functions. Not an emergency but told it was up to me as to when it was done. This was done in an OP surgery csnter and considerations were when the surgeon (OP doc) did procedures there.

My daughter will have her pacemaker generator (not the leads) replaced this coming week, she saw her doctor on Friday. This will be in a hospital. Considering though, that since her current pacemaker has gone into reserve mode the replacement is not elective at this point.

We have lived in Florida for many years, over the years have had any number of minor surgeries land procedures done. I can't recall waiting more than a week, at the outside 10 days after I saw the doc doing the procedure to have it done.

Though the wait may be more of an issue when the recommendation for the surgery is made by one doctor and the patient still has to see the specialist or surgeon who will do the surgery. It can take weeks, sometimes months to see this doc, depending on how busy he/she is. If the procedure can't wait that long, or is more urgent, the option would be to pick another surgeon if one is available.

The other holdup could be preauthorization of the surgery by the patient's insurance company.
