Anyone take Xanax to sleep? Once i stopped smoking i could no longer take naps and or sleep good at nite and always feel wound up.
My sister started giving me hers to help me sleep and they work good for that. She passed away last year and i am about out of hers so not sure if any Doc would give me some once they run out.
I only take about a half 2 mil pill 3 times a week. Have not been to a Doc in 30 years so i may be forced to go to get some more.

If by "Xnanx" you mean Xanax...
The usual dose for general anxiety is .5 (half of one) MG. If you're taking half of a 2-MG pill, that means you're taking 1MG per dose. That's twice the typical dose for someone who is actually prescribed it to treat anxiety. I sometimes supplement my sleeping meds with 1/8MG if I'm having a particularly stressful day, otherwise I don't take any at all.
You shouldn't be taking it at all, if you haven't seen a doctor in 30 years.

Nicotine is a stimulant-- You must be a psycho Actually, your experience just goes to show that the psychological/behavioral benefits of smoking outweigh its pharmacological effects.
Your sleep problems may also be associated with aging: many people after the age of 50 or so require less sleep, and may start waking up after each 1.5-2.5 hr sleep cycles.
Use of benzodiazepines (mild tranquilizers) as a sleep aid is a good idea for some folks. They are basically non-addicting (not to say you can't get psychologically dependent on them). Your use is hardly abusive. If it works for you, no reason not to continue.
Everyone is different in how they metabolize these drugs. With Xanax, for many people the half-life is long-- resulting in the "hang-over" and prolonged drowsiness...While Valium (usually a better choice) has a longer measurable half-life, it's effects tend to wain after 4-6 hrs-- just about right for an effective sleep aid.
Atlguy is right in his post above--Docs are reluctant to prescribe these safe drugs now because bureaucrats & congressmen are practicing medicine without licenses, telling docs how they must practice.
I spoke with my doctor about difficulty sleeping. He was reluctant to prescribe something like lunesta because he said it monkeys with your actual sleep cycles. He, and subsequent doctors, have prescribed it for me for sleep. I use it sparingly and have no zombie after effects, nor any addiction issues.

I cut a pill into 3 pieces. Only take them to take naps on Sat and Sun. I used to could take a nap like a cat for 2 to 4 hours. Once i stopped smoking life went to hell mel back in 2014. No more sleeping feeling like blowing up all the time. Worst thing i did was stop smoking. But sure not paying the Gov all that tax money to smoke like a silly bloke. I started smoking at age 12 so 41 years of it. Once i said prices hit a point i am done and stopped over nite dwight.
My sis was taking around 12 kinds of pills a day for years. I tried her Amitripyline like a tiny bit of a pill and that really knocks me out. Also makes me think of bad things.
No wonder my sis wanted to die the last 30 years. She has plenty of Oxy's left at the house. But never was into pills and keeping them just in case i need a way out for good as i figure 80 should do me in if things ever get that bad i want to go.
I stopped taking any pills back when i was 18 since i was seeing so many head Docs back when i was 4 thru 18.
So if something else can help me sleep like a creep i am all for it. The last few years did a number on me taking care of my sis as she went down hill and the last 6 months she really went downhill and passed away due to so many things wrong with her. Kidneys, heart and many other things. I have never had a cold or health problems.

I was always a 930pm to 6am sleeper until the last 6 years. Then after what i went thru my sis it ruined me.
Now if i sleep 4 hours i am lucky. With the pill i can go 6 or 7. I was given Valium at age 10 in 1973 but don't remember what it did to me way back then.
It became a nitemare for my sister to get her pills the last many years. Had to jump thru hoops.
