One of the most consumed drugs in the US – and the most commonly taken analgesic worldwide – could be doing a lot more than simply taking the edge off your headache, new evidence suggests.
Acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol and sold widely under the brand names Tylenol and Panadol, also increases risk-taking, according to a new study that measured changes in people's behaviour when under the influence of the common over-the-counter medication.
"Acetaminophen seems to make people feel less negative emotion when they consider risky activities – they just don't feel as scared," says neuroscientist Baldwin Way from The Ohio State University.
I never liked acetaminophen because of it's liver toxicity, but this is entirely new to me.
What a joke..."Risky behavior" is defined by how test subjects fill out a questionnaire and how fast they fill up balloons (!!) after one stinking dose of Tylenol....How does this crap get published?
I am a very risk averse person. I take Tylenol everyday (for athletic issues). When I read this I tried my extra strength Tylenol this morning hoping I would get some sort of "daring" streak and have a more exciting life but I am still as boring as ever. : (

However if true, at least it it does something, because acetaminophen has never done diddly-squat for me except when mixed with a real pain killer like codeine, etc.

I am not a huge believer in studies period unless they have been done over and over for quite some time. Yes, this is one that is a bit unlikely, but for those who want to believe it I guess they have a reason for their thoughts.
I will continue to take my OTC mild pain relievers for mild ailments and trust my doctor for prescribing stronger drugs if needed. If we look hard enough we can find a study that shows almost anything.
Scientific researchers can be as corrupt as politicians. Think back to the 50's with tobacco!
You're being paid $150k as a scientist at some big corporation that's losing sales. You don't really care for the product, wouldn't even use it yourself, but you're under the gun to increase sales, and you don't want to lose your job, supporting a wife and 3 kids, and?
Reading a book on Coffee/Caffeine, apparently there's a 7 story research facility in Paris and their only job is to defend caffeine. And dare you criticize the caffeine industry and they'll send a pack of wolves after you.
