A Massachusetts congressman who has received both doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine has tested positive for the virus.
The office of U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch said Friday that the lawmaker had had a negative test result before attending President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Is he sick? No, he's not. He isn't showing any symptoms so this isn't really news. We already knew that people could still get infected with the virus. There are probably many thousands just like him, infected, and not sick.

And? No Covid-19 vaccine currently released has been claimed to be 100% effective! Tests for Covid-19 are not 100% accurate either. If this report is actually true (and not spun for political motives), hopefully he'll be monitored closely. He may end up with no symptomatic disease at all.

That's the whole point of getting vaccinated.
Based on what I've read from a variety of sources, getting the vaccine does not stop a person from contracting Covid, nor does it stop them from passing it along to others. It MAY lessen the effects of the virus though, if you should happen to get it.

About 40% to 50% of people who get covid are asymptomatic anyway. This just shows that getting a vaccine doesn’t mean you can’t still get infected and spread it to others. He may have been asymptomatic with or without the vaccine.
the moment anyone says ‘vaccine’, the only acceptable response is to leap to your feet and salute, whilst singing Ode to Joy. Followed by fifteen minutes of enthusiastic clapping. Failure to do so, means you are taken out and shot for thought crimes. Doubleplusgood, indeed.
Moderator cut: conspiracy theories do not belong here. They should go into Politics & Other Controversies. Occasionally an alternative/complimentary link (NON conspiracy) would be acceptable here if it is in the context of the thread, but it would be better for alt.med and complimentary articles to have their own thread in the Alternative Medicine forum.

Bad luck, but the vaccines are 96%/99% effective so it comes as no surprise someone gets the virus despite the vaccine. He has no symptoms, though, which is good.
I think it can be hard to tell what the side effects are since it is so soon. My mom had something happen to her after she got the vaccine that she thinks could be a side effect, but she can’t find any information one way or the other. Her doctor did not think it was related, but she said they did not know.
Even if you do have a vaccine, it takes several weeks for it to be fully effective, especially considering that there is a lag time between when you contract the virus and actually show symptoms.

Like people who have contracted Covid19 and recovered, he could simply be shedding viral RNA. The infective agent for a virus is the virion, which is viral RNA enclosed in a capsule that lets it invade cells. Viral RNA on its own has no way to get into cells, and therefore is not infective. But if the virion can inject viral RNA into cells, then the viral RNA can trick the cells into producing more virions. And that's an infection. When we recover from a viral infection, some of our cells continue to leak viral RNA, but no infective virions.
