I was taking 12.5 of Metoprolol twice a day and it didn’t seem to help that much. It was 160/90 at the dr (I have white coat syndrome also) and approx 145/90. Last night I bought a new Omron BP machine and it was 150/90 and then 145/93. This morning I started on 5 mg of Lisinopril once a day (prescribed yesterday). I took one this morning and a few hours later my BP was down. I took it several times and it was 131/80, 125/75, 134/79. Could that extra med work that fast? The dr said she didn’t think it would bring it low enough and will probably have to change to 10 mg. But if it brings it down after only a few hours is it going to eventually get lower?
Can a cuff that’s too small for someone make their BP higher? Just wondering since this new BP monitor showed my husbands BP as much higher than the old one we had. Which had a bigger cuff.
Don't underestimate things like white coat syndrome. In my case I get a very high reading when an automatic machine is used but when a manual machine is used it's normal. For some reason the noise of the machine freaks me out and causes an artificially high reading.
Metoprolol and Lisinopril can be a very good combination for high blood pressure. I've taken those two together for about 25 years and it works beautifully.

I was prescribed both those drugs (actually he prescribed Toprol Xl rather than the generic Metoprolol) about a year ago by a cardiologist. I left him for a number of reasons, and when renewal time came express scripts wouldn't renew the (brand name) Toprol Xl and sent Metoprolol. These are different drugs, does anyone know much about them? From what I've seen on the web, Metoprolol has been indicated in some dementia studies. My GP says she'll support me for the Toprol but can't come up with a reason for the pharma folks.
Every time at the doc's office the nurse takes my BP the old fashioned way. It's ALWAYS much lower than my robot cuff at home or the machines they use at other docs' offices. Last time it was 110/60, which IIRC was what I was reading when I was 20. I'm considering getting anew robocuff, just to see if there are differences.

^ my BP is also lower in docs office. I often bring my meter with me. My BP can be quite variable, if the docs reading is too low or too high I request another reading or two. A BP much below 120 I am dizzy and slightly nausated. A BP higher than 160, I got a headache. Ambivalent to BP drugs. Makes me constipated, and I seem to bounce between light head to heavy headiness and a general feeling of being slightly off all day long.
I'm a relaxed person. Dad was an MD so doc offices don't bother me. I'm on or have been on all the above scrips. Too many.
