For the last several years I have ordered my shoes online or just asked for my size. Recently I bought a pair that I could not even get on my feet. I wrote it off to being sent a woman's size instead of a men's size. But I was curious and, when I went to my podiatrist, I asked for accurate measurement of my shoe size. I went from a 10.5W to a size 12W!

Looking online I saw that it is not uncommon for our feet to get larger as we age. If I keep this up they will probably have to cut off my toes to get me in the coffin! Or I have to keep an eye out for the Big Foot plaster cast professor Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum if I go outside barefoot!

My shoe size could have been steadily increasing over the years and I did not notice? I am curious how many others have experienced this foot growth and is it normal to increase a size and a half?

Obviously change in shoe size is partly due to different shoe brands, but in general my shoe size has gone up as I've aged. Well made boots and shoes I've owned for years that I used to wear comfortably no longer fit. It isn't so much that your foot actually grows, but that the effects of gravity and years of weightbearing alters the shape of your foot. The ligaments in your foot relax, tendons and bones accumulate small pressure injuries, etc. All that can spread out the structure of your feet.

I've gone from a size 7 shoe, when I was a sweet young thing, to a size 8.5 presently as a former sweet young thing.

Though I've read, as Parnassia said, it's not that one's foot grows as he/she ages, it's more the effects of gravity, ligaments and tendons weakening or getting lax, and flattening out the foot.

I just never thought about it and kept ordering the same size shoe. They, in turn, felt uncomfortable. I wrote it off to downsizing and not my foot becoming longer.

With today's 'shop online' I thought it might be a good subject to bring up on this forum because others are probably doing the same as I did.

Here is a link to your link: https://www.city-data.com/forum/fash...en-larger.html.

How did you make out with your shoes? Did you find a home for your old shoes and did you finally replace them with new ones?

So you do realize there is a thread on this already. Now that it's warm, I've been wearing mostly flip-flops and haven't gone out since there is the cicada invasion here - some of my old shoes fit, it seems like it's about a 1/2 size change.

Most, not all, of my old shoes fit. The big problem is with steel-toe shoes, they don't stretch and can rub my toes raw. Actually, I have one foot that is half a size longer than the other foot right now. That longer foot is the one that feels the problem more. I am still waiting for a new pair of steel-toe shoes. I have my first pair of Big Foot street shoes and I will get more in the near future.

My feet increased by 1 and half sizes in 3 years. It’s depressing.

It's sad as we age the wrong parts grow and the important parts shrink or sag.
