Vasovagal fainting when using bathroom at night (feet, patient, cause)

Does anyone know anything about a vasovagal response experienced at nighttime in the bathroom? The frequency is a few times a year. The patient isn't aware of any conscious strain during bowel movements, and there's no particular constipation. The patient falls down and loses consciousness for a couple of minutes.

Possibly the fainting is caused by a too rapid rise from a supine or prone position to an upright position. When rising from lying in bed, one should sit on the sit of the bed and "dangle" one's feet before standing up.
