Husband and I are vaccinated. We only wear masks if we go an see doctors. I got anxiety wearing the mask but I wore it when I had too. Now that it is optional I don't wear it unless it is required. If you choose to wear it still and you are vaccinated then that's your choice.

Also, if you read the entire article, it's pretty clear that the vaccine is nearly certainly at least 88 percent effective, not 64 percent. And it's still well over 90 percent effective (regardless of what one believes) in keeping the vaccinated from becoming seriously ill and/or needing hospitalization.

True...American vaccines are very effective against the Delta Variant. 99% of covid hospitalization and deaths are from the unvaccinated.

Seems like we lost Howard.

I think Howard is in a state that had mask laws like NJ had. I'm still seeing masks on people when I go out, I'd say it's about 1/2 wearing masks, maybe more. I don't know if they're vaccinated, I'm not due to allergies. The shingles vaccine almost closed my throat. I wasn't able to get the 2nd dose. I'm hoping that one dose and having shingles will be enough to stop me from getting it again because it was on my right eyelid where my eye lashes are. They were worried I would lose my sight.

I won't get the vaccine until I've been tested for the ingredient in the J&J vaccine that's known to cause allergic reactions. I'm going with J&J for a few reasons, it was tested where they had active variants and I may only be able to get one shot of one, so J&J fits that.

Plus, now there is the start of the Lambda variant where the vaccines are slightly less effective

Thanks for mentioning the new strain, I hadn't looked into it yet because it was only in Peru.

The variant has not come to the US, yet. Apparently 81% of new COVID cases in Peru are due to it. The articles I've read say that it appears to evade vaccines better than other strains but they're saying they do not have data on that yet.

It's spread to nearly 30 countries in the last four weeks. They also say that they've seen no indication that the variant is more aggressive but that it may be possible that it may exhibit higher infection rates, but they do not have that data yet.

It has seven mutations in it's spike protein. The articles say it has an unusual set of mutations and that one mutation is shared with the delta variant.

Here is the COVID variant tracker for anyone interested. It's easily found Googling COVID variant tracker. I'm not seeing Lambda on it yet.

Fears arise that lambda COVID-19 variant from Peru may be resistant to vaccines - By Lee Brown - July 5, 2021 | 1:24pm

Quote:
The lambda mutation, or C.37, appears to have emerged in Peru last August — and is being blamed for the country having the highest pandemic death rate in the world.

The concerning strain has since spread to around 30 countries, mostly in Latin America — but also as far as the UK, which has recorded at least eight cases....

Lambda carries a number of mutations” that may have led to “potential increased transmissibility or possible increased resistance to neutralizing antibodies,” the WHO said.

...mutations present in the spike protein of the lambda variant confer escape to neutralizing antibodies and increased infectivity,” wrote the researchers from the University of Chile in Santiago.

Lambda variant raises concern due to ‘unusual’ mutations - Published 1 day ago

Quote:
The Lambda variant, which is believed to have been first detected in Peru about a year ago, is a new concern to scientists who say mutations could potentially be resistant to COVID-19 vaccines.

He told the German outlet that as SARS-CoV-2 evolves, it may start to become more transmissible, but not as deadly.

Why health officials are watching new 'lambda' coronavirus variant - July 6, 2021

Quote:
Some of these mutations have the potential to increase transmissibility of the virus or to reduce the ability of certain antibodies to neutralize, or inactivate, the virus, according to the WHO.... ... A paper published in the July issue of the journal Genomics identified F490S as a likely "vaccine escape mutation" that could both make the virus more infectious and disrupt the ability of vaccine-generated antibodies to recognize the variant.

Covid 19 coronavirus: Ultra-contagious Lambda variant detected in Australia - 6 Jul, 2021 02:26 AM

Quote:
The world's most transmissible Covid-19 strain has found its way into Australia – with worrying research revealing it may be even more infectious than the Delta variant.

...In Australia, the variant was detected in an overseas traveller who had been in hotel quarantine in New South Wales in April...

Professor Pablo Tsukayama of Cayetano Heredia University in Lima, Peru, said the strain has exploded in Peru, suggesting "its rate of transmission is higher than any other variant".

Outdoor transmission of the virus is very very unlikely.

https://jonathanturley.org/2021/05/1...-transmission/

“… There is not a single documented Covid infection anywhere in the world from casual outdoor interactions, such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table…”

Sorry if it's the wrong thread to mention it but Singapore plan to scrap daily Covid counts and treats it like the flu.

Singapore, the tiny, wealthy, Southeast Asian nation with world-class medical care, has always been known for its objective readings of facts, and practical, proportionate responses.
So, in concluding that COVID probably isn't ever going to go away entirely, the island state has decided to put the virus into the same category as other infectious diseases, such as malaria and the flu. They'll remain vigilant against such diseases and on the top with treatment, but they will not shut down the entire country in a disproportionate response to the problem.
According to the Sun:
SINGAPORE could become one of the first countries to stop recording daily Covid case numbers in a bid to get life back to normal by treating the virus "like the flu".
The south-east Asian country has recorded just 36 deaths since the start of the pandemic by implementing draconian rules to curb the infection rate, and officials now want to ditch measures such as counting infection numbers each day.

Why are people continuing to listen to the fear porn, and somehow thinking that wearing a permeable cloth over thier face will prevent them from getting this? People, stop listening to the media, they are paid liars. If you must listen to them, please apply the techniques the Russian citizens did when listening to Soviet media back in their bad old days.

Figure out what the agenda is behind why the news is reporting what it is reporting
Determine what gain the government gets by giving the version of the truth it is reporting
Remember, the main two functions of the news these days is not just to mislead, but to demoralize the public.

This will serve you better than just taking what the media says at fact value.

Covid 19 coronavirus: Ultra-contagious Lambda variant detected in Australia - 6 Jul, 2021 02:26 AM
The 125 infected in Georgia were from the Clear Creek Community Church in League City, Texas. Many media outlets had the story late yesterday, so I found it again this morning. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated campers caught covid, some had Delta strain. Thanks for researching it.

I live in the League City area not far from this church, so just a quick clarification, the church camp was in Giddings, TX, which is about 2 hours from Houston on the way to Austin. And yes, as you mention above, The Galveston County Health Department is reporting that several of those who tested positive were vaccinated and some (not necessarily the same group) had the Delta variant. I have not seen any reports of what percentage of those in attendance were vaccinated versus not, but considering that many of the campers were under 12, it's not surprising if the number of unvaccinated was high.
