Without getting into the vax no vax argument, be aware that this new strain is also hitting those that have had the shot so act accordingly.
A lot of people have become accustomed to thinking outdoor activities are only for the warmer months, but if new strains make the vaccines less effective it might be a good idea to invest in solid winter clothing for both oneself and family/friends. The backup plan if the vaccines fail is to have some outdoor activities to keep you sane - even during winter!
…this perception that anyone who does not race out and get the vaccine must be "ignorant."
I am well aware of how the system works, your doctor is essentially passing along info from the CDC, so a second opinion is frankly useless in this case, as they have no more or less info at their disposal.
With condition having and established pathology and long tested treatments it is easy to have one or maybe two doctors look at the case and determine a course of action.
When you are dealing with something that lacks that level of information, no amount of seeking "medical professionals" is going to do any good since NONE OF THEM can tell you what the 10,20,30, 50 year impacts of either the virus or the vaccine are. They are all making educated guesses, which is all we can expect from them.
But to uncritically do whatever the CDC says, when they have been caught lying more than once during this, is foolish.
Remember, not that long ago “medical professionals” used lead, mercury, cocaine, arsenic and lobotomy as medical treatments!
And they advertised cigarettes and encouraged the use of margarine as healthy!

Yes, that was the consensus and a good example of why consensus in science is irrelevant. The greatest scientists are great because they broke with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics, not science. Very relevant today.

I don't see too many great scientists breaking with gravity, evolution or round earth.

It's important to point out that these methods were superstitions and marketing gimmicks, not resulting from rigorous employment of the scientific method. I can't think of any example where something proven by science was later disproven, only cases where new knowledge replaced superstition or educated guesses.

Gravity and evolution were discovered by scientists who broke from consensus. As I said, the greatest scientists are great because they broke from consensus. An ancient Greek mathematician proved the earth is round.
