There tends to be less cough and less loss of the sense of smell with the delta variant.

Well, supposedly I live in a high transmission area and I still don't know anyone who has it or who has been hospitalized with it or died from it. I do know tons of people who tested positive, some (not all) of whom were sick, though none were sick enough to go to the hospital. Oh well, the fun continues I guess.

Just about everyone I know is fully vaccinated now. I don't know of any cases among those - or in general in fact.

I am quite suspicious of timing consideration the Delta Variant; it seems perfectly timed for the beginning of classes in August in much of the country and September elsewhere.

Who knows? I'll tell you what I DO know and that's that this country - heck , this WORLD - cannot economically handle another big shut down.

The Delta Variant was identified in Dec. 2020 in India, and became dominant in UK shortly thereafter. Did you think it would stay out of the US?

Not at all. I am suspicious of the hype. The UK and South African variants were the last hyped and they failed to derail the countrywide reopening this past May. Now the teachers will stop at nothing to remain at relative leisure. Some of them that is. I know some that are killing themselves to educate their students. But not all by any stretch of the imagination.

Is this based on hearsay and anecdotal stories, or from guidance published by health organizations?

Here's a research-based article that describes the difference in symptoms:

In addition, vaccinated show different symptoms too, milder. I've seen lots of info graphics on the differences.
