Those of you who have had the JNJ covid vaccine, what was your experience? Any breakthrough covid infections? I have autoimmune issues and elevated Epstein Barr titers, & other viral titers but am not "sick". So far My Dr has recommended I NOT take any of the covid vaccines but wondered if the JNJ could work for me since its not a mRNA type like the Moderna & Pfizer's vaccines. The big concern is reactivation of viruses, etc that could cause illness and not be able to work.
Thank you!
The bolded? Your doctor said no to you for any of the covid vaccines.
One shot is 70-80 percent effective against symptomatic Covid. Her concern is dormant viruses in the nervous system, such as Epstein-Barr or Shingles, that could activate after a vaccine shot. Her doctor's concern is that she has an overactive immune system which could make the side effects severe on the 2nd dose. As I said, go back to the same doctor and refine your concerns or question. J&J is one shot but it replaces the 2 shots of the mRNA vaccines. You can take a single dose of the other two vaccines, but it's up to you and your doctor.

Consider waiting for the Noravax, but if you are in a high risk group, you might want to seriously consider either the vaccine or the mRNA shots, as catching the Wuhan virus with co-morbidities is playing with fire.
I have autoimmune issues and elevated EBV titers too, and that's exactly the reason my doctor told me to get the vaccine. Getting the virus would be much, much more of a blow to my already challenged immune system. I got the Pfuzer vaccine and had no issues.
I had a good friend who had JNJ. He did end up getting Covid afterward but it was mild.
I have a friend who had the JNJ vaccine and he also got Covid. It was considered a mild case, but he did have it for a solid week. Took longer for his sense of smell to come back.
People will have different experiences since you don't know when they're getting the vaccine shot in relation to a flare up of their rheumatoid arthritis or other autoimmune disease. That's what might have happened with Eric Clapton who has peripheral neuropathy and had a really bad experience with the AstraZeneca vaccine. You definitely want to be careful if you have severe autoimmune issues and there is a current flare up. Pfizer is the weakest vaccine of the three in terms of mRNA quantity as they were trying to minimize side effects.
