i don't know about hypnosis. I've seen a hypnotherapist do some fun party tricks but don't know how helpful it would be for treatment. Seems like some people are more susceptible than others to hypnosis.

Anyhoo, I had some success diluting soda with seltzer water to cut back. I like LaCroix tangerine mixed with coke for an orangey/coke flavor.

The LaCroix is good for that burning sensation, due to citric acid.

And for me, I couldn't get through most days without No-Doz. When I'm struggling to stay awake or focused on a project, I break off a piece of a No-Doz, I think they are 200mg of caffeine and i break them into 5ths. That usually perks me up and helps the craving go away. I know caffeine isn't the best drug but if it keeps me from consuming all the sugar in soda, I'm happy to make that trade off.

I haven't found a brand or flavor of those sparkling waters I can stomach. They all seem to have a bunch of "non-caloric" chemical ingredients that distort the flavor. Plain seltzer/club soda with a bit of juice/flavor syrup works best for me. You can still get the fizzy sting, just enough sweet to satisfy, but no weird aftertaste.

^^^ This. After a few times drinking grapefruit or grape juice mixed 1 to 5 with plain carbonated water, sugar water soft drinks begin to taste cloyingly sweet.

FWIW, we spend much of our lives in hypnotic states of mind. Ever drive a well known route and not remember the drive once you were at the destination? You were in a type of hypnotic state while driving.

Many years ago I went to a hypnotist who claimed this method would stop me from smoking, it didn't. I didn't feel hypnotized at all during the session, maybe my mind didn't want to be hypnotized because I didn't want to quit smoking at that point in my life?

Here's how you give up anything: stop buying anything to bring into the house.

If you go out to eat and want an anything, no problem.(Unless you go out and buy anythings frequently)
If you're doing take-out and "make it a meal" and the meal comes with an anything, that's fine. (see above)

But don't buy anything as any part of your grocery shopping. Don't keep anything in the house. You can't consume what you don't have
If the only concern is a product that your body doesn't need, that is actually not healthful, and that you tend to over-do enough to be concerned about it...

just stop bringing it into your house. Things you NEED - get treated some other way. Things you do not NEED - just don't make it so easily available.

When people give up cigarettes they have nicotine patches to help them slowly give it up. Alcohol I don't know anyone who gave up alcohol without drugs from the rehabs.

To help give up soda it is very hard but fill the glass up almost all the way the pour unflavored seltzer in it but just about a shot glass full. Do that for a week or two. Then after say two weeks make it 2 shots of unflavored seltzer to the same glass of soda. Of course this must be done with each glass of soda and if you drink more than one or two glasses a day then time yourself when you give yourself permission to have a glass with the seltzer in it. Another words make it if you can only one for lunch and one for dinner. Maybe if you really want more one in between lunch and dinner. Try not to have more after 8 to 9 pm. Go to bed early if you must around 10 pm if you don't already that will help with the habit of late night soda drinking

The seltzer is a big help and will cut down on any headaches you will get if you go cold turkey. Do not ever give up caffeine completely when slowly downsizing on the amount of soda you have each day. Your head will feel like it's going to explode if you do. I made that mistake and gave up all caffeine and didn't know to downsize on the drinking. I went cold turkey!! I nearly died from the headaches. Then to make my misery worse I had to have a little soda just to stop the pain and what happened I got addicted all over again. Now I have to try again and stick with it. It will work just don't please don't give up all caffeine at once and never have it again once you are over it. I swear it's like an alcoholic drug addiction.
EDIT: Forgot to suggest when I said don't give up all caffeine I meant it's ok to have that cup of coffee in the morning. My Mother use to drink coffee all day and the headaches she suffered when she cut down very suddenly to just one cup a day were horrible.
