Thank you for sharing. There are far too many people, anecdotal as it is, I know who are in that "unlucky" percentage. I read on my FB about yet another family contracting covid, and the husband dying.

My neighbor, whom I actually knew, died of covid. took 16 days and she never got off a ventilator. She wasn't old.

The healthcare pros/front line workers - those are the people whose opinions I actually value and respect - the ones I know relate to me about the covid cases. The young people who are being intubated.

You don't have to live in fear, but you shouldn't disregard COVID 19 either. I have a respect for it (and really all novel illnesses). Doesn't equate to fear.

These statistics, regardless of validity, lead many to believe that Covid will have no effect on them. Until it does.

I weightlift as a hobby. Below 50. Yet I am at a high risk for Covid 19. I have hypertension. Half of America is overweight and/or obese. So many people have comorbidities that put them in the line of fire for serious infection.

And additionally Covid 19 is a drain on resources, leading to people dying due to lack of hospital beds. A fellow parent lost her husband because the ICU was 100% taken up by covid 19 patients.

Good question. But then, hysteria - especially mass hysteria - is rarely rational.

Can you tell me where I can go to see some of this hysteria? I've spent months in each of 3 states since the pandemic began, and I seem to have missed all of the hysteria except as it involves toilet paper in New Mexico. I'm about due for some travel so please do tell me where I can watch some hysteria.

Death is not the only metric; many take months to recover from Covid, and some wind up with long-lasting health issues, even after a mild case. It can damage lungs, brain, and heart, requiring lifelong treatment.

The rural death rate is 0.85. The urban death rate is less than half that. This disease is killing off poor unhealthy rural people who aren’t vaccinated and who have lousy access to health care. I’m vaccinated. Everyone around me is vaccinated. We’re all going to get boosters. I live in affluent suburbia. I have world class hospitals nearby that don’t have overflowing ICUs. If I have a heart attack or a car crash, I’m going to get top treatment and probably survive. In a rural place, I’m probably going to die. I don’t want long haul symptoms so I wear an N95 mask to protect myself when I’m indoors in public places. We telecommute so we can control our risk. We socialize with vaccinated people.

Did you read your cite?--"Fatigue and loss of smell" qualifies you for "Long CoViD" and even at that, the rate is very low. The rate of serious prolonged effects is low enough to qualify you for Ripley's.

Judging by the rate of immunity vs the rate of new symptomatic cases, half or more of the people who get infected don't get sick at all.

A search on Gofundme for "Covid Medical Bills" brings up almost 30,000 posts. https://www.gofundme.com/s?q=covid%20medical%20bills
Average Medical bills $51,000: https://www.healthcarefinancenews.co...8000-based-age
I don't understand why you would want to roll those dice.

But that is a really questionable source

So ,any people have lousy insurance, low savings, and any hospital bill can be serious threat
More medical bankruptcies happening all the time even before CoVid

And some of those are likely scams

Ah, so this talk about "hysteria" is really all just a political objection. That certainly does explain it.
