For a few years I have toe cramps. They are only the big toe, and can happen on either foot. The big toe declines towards the underside of the foot and is painful.

Has anyone had or heard of this problem where its only toe cramps? No shin cramps or calf cramps. Toe only, for years.

I will occasionally have toe cramps but I also have calf cramps. Hydration and stretching tend to be absent when it is most present. I doubt toe cramps are caused or treated much differently than other cramps.

just an FYI: there are no muscles in your toes so the cramping is in another part of your foot.

'old fed' is correct. The muscle most probably affected is the anterior tibial that runs down the front of your shin bone. The effect when it spasms is to pull your big toe up painfully.

I usually have to get out of bed and walk around the house until it wears off.

I don't think anyone is sure of the cause, but because I have had peripheral artery disease of both legs (which means that most of my arteries were clogging with atherosclerosis), I guess that it is caused by a poor blood supply to the muscles. I emphasise that I'm guessing only. My guess is that a poor blood supply into a muscle, means that less waste products come out (eg lactic acid). Ultrasounds of my leg arteries before and after high vitamin K supplementation indicated that any arteries less than 60% blocked all opened up, but any that were more than 80% blocked, remained damaged.

good home remedy for when you do get leg or toe cramps is eat 1 tablespoon of mustard, then drink a floss of water. Works every time for me.
