It's been proven that you sweat out heavy metals and other nasty elements, more so than when it's eliminated via urine and plasma.
"...What it shows, when they tested, was that sweat had a greater than 10x concentration of arsenic than the blood did. Sweat had greater than 25x the concentration of cadmium in it than blood did. Sweat had greater than 300x the lead concentration that blood did. What these numbers are saying to you is that your sweat is removing dangerous heavy metals from your body, especially lead, up to 300x better than your blood taking it to your liver or your kidneys to remove it."
Infrared light also has proven collagen boosting benefits, boosts the circulation which gives the face a radiant glow, and can make the skin appear tighter. There's studies on that as well. Infrared light therapy (minus the heat) are often offered at med spas now.
I personally love infrared saunas. I like traditional saunas too but if you are going to own one in your home it's more of a hassle. About 2 years ago I purchased a low EMF infrared sauna from Sunlighten, it was about $5,000. Best investment ever. I've been loving it. My adult acne and discoloration is completely gone. I feel like it's made my hair thicker and my husband thinks it's helped his hairline. The sweating feels great and my skin looks radiant pretty much all the time.
When I'm forced to be away from the sauna I start feeling sick within a week. I get over it, but life is sooo much better when regularly using my sauna.
So what is the difference between going into an infrared sauna type room and sitting there vs getting an infrared sauna blanket that you lay in? They seem like very different experiences to me.
I would assume the infrared blanket/pods are pretty much similar except if you have your head out, you won't get any infrared light on your head, which I would think then my face wouldn't get benefits or glowing skin. So if it were me I would prefer the traditional enclosed sauna unless when travelling then having a blanket would be cool.
I was looking at higher dose sauna blanket. I read some reviews and some people say they prefer not having their face in the blanket because it would be too hot plus it exacerbates skin issues like malasma and rosacea. But people said their face still got sweaty.
I'm on the fence, $599 seems like a lot for a hot blanket.
I have a FAR infrared sauna. Benefit over traditional sauna: no wood mess/fire or no water/hot rocks. I was told they heat fast, but mine would take 40 minutes plus to get to a hot temp. I only have a three person sauna. My chiropractor recommended it; I'm sure others would also recommend. However, I wouldn't recommend unless you have money to spend and a burning desire to have one.
I never really felt like I got much benefit other than to warm up on a cold day...never did go jump in the snow or a cold shower.
The infrared wrap concept is not a new thing. It certainly seems like BS but it is offered at some spas...I guess a sucker is born every minute to pay for such a treatment. Maybe it feels nice but some are listed at $150 for a 40 minute session.
Unfortunately I cant find much info on actual reviews. I've seen a few spas offering them with comments like sounds great! A few reviews have people saying of course you can't lose weight just laying somewhere sweating (or not).
I could see it being nice at the end of a spa treatment or something...but $599 to own one.

Both are beneficial. Cost and availability should be taken into consideration.
Dome saunas provide more intense, private sauna experience - blanket saunas offer portability and convenience
