Too much caffeine depletes the brain's supply of phenylalanine. This contributes to the "spaced out" feeling one gets when they overindulge. It also explains why diet sodas are so addictive, because they contain both caffeine and phenylalanine (if sweetened with aspartame).

Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid and available as a supplement.

Anyone else have caffeine sensitivity?
I guess I've acclimated to caffeine use. I use it for stimulation, and for its anti-allergenic qualities.

Yes. I have a dust allergy. For a while, on the recommendation of a friend and prescription of a doctor, I took Slo-phyllin as relief from its main symptoms, watery eyes and sneezing. I found ice coffee works just as well, so no need for prescription or doctor's visits.

My friend asked me the same question. I can drink ice coffee much faster without getting burned so it's available when I need it. But "some like it hot."

I've recently taken up iced coffee...no sugar, no dairy. I feel great afterwards. But I do limit it to two 8 oz cups a day.

Caffeine is metabolized by your liver. It's believed there are beneficial effects to that. When your body digests caffeine, it makes a chemical called paraxanthine that slows the growth of the scar tissue involved in fibrosis. That may help fight liver cancer, alcohol-related cirrhosis, non-alcohol-related fatty liver disease, and hepatitis C.

Interesting and thank you. My instinct was always that it was good for me.

Lo and behold I woke up the next day with the most outrageous withdrawal symptoms — not just a massive headache, but almost non-stop vomiting that turned into drying heaving, light-headedness, tremors. I had no idea what the heck was wrong with me, but I started thinking about what I had done differently past days, thought about the kombucha and, hands trembling, did my best to make myself some emergency brew. Within 15 minutes I was feeling better and 30 minutes later I was almost normal. After this cup of coffee, I slowly weaned myself off either a teaspoon or a tablespoon less per day (forget which, but it was a very small amount).
I never had caffeine until I was in my 30's. I started drinking a little Mountain Dew or Pepsi. Loved the taste and it pumped me up, but what I discovered was I was getting tremendous headaches the next day. Because of this, I haven't drunk a soft drink in in more than 10 years. I discovered Tea around age 40, and I can drink my cup of tea in the morning, and I feel really good. I rarely skip a day, but if I do there is no headache. For me, black tea has been a great find. I was thinking of upgrading to coffee someday if my tolerance were to grow, but to this point I haven't needed to.
