Has anyone here taken Malarone for malaria prophylaxis? If so, how did you tolerate it?
I took my first dose yesterday afternoon and thought I was doing well, but about eight hours later had nausea, pretty bad diarrhea and feel lethargic and flushed, almost feverish. I’m feeling pretty sick. Not looking forward to sn entire vacation of feeling ill. Or maybe I just won’t eat.
According to the CDC website, “mild” side effects like “occasional vomiting” shouldn’t stop you from taking the medication.
Already wondering if I should go off and only take the meds before we enter the high risk malaria zone — only 1 to 2 days of the trip and just rely on mosquito netting permethrin and insect repellent for the lower risk areas.
Or does this get better? Does your body get used to it or does it get worse and worse.
Please don’t tell me to see a doctor. Our flight leaves in a few hours and it’s not really possible. Besides, if the CDC says that vomiting shouldn’t put you off the drug, I suppose feeling like total crap your entire vacation shouldn’t put you off it either.
Also, please no suggestions that maybe I actually have malaria. We haven’t left home yet. Lol (Sorry. Just know what these forums are like sometimes.)
