But I have always tried to keep a decent space between myself and others. Especially so since I shop at stores that seem to be filled with very unhealthy, sickly, sneezy-coughy, obese folks.........many requiring a cart to get around the store.
I've always disagreed with this. People spit on each other all the time. I was having this discussion during the worst of the pandemic with a friend. Neither wearing masks. She was getting a bit animated and accidentally spit on me. She didn't know she did. But this happens all the time. Humans sometimes project spittle from their mouths.
Even the worst of masks stop this.
Which is my point. They don't really keep you from getting sick. They keep you from spreading sick. Also why we had almost no flu season last year since it travels more on droplets and is less aerosolized than the 'rona.

Funny I've noticed a few neighbors that wear them now doing yard work (mostly mowing.) They don't wear them walking the dog but stirring up the pollen they sure do.
But, I absolutely expect to see some percentage of people wearing masks forever, and I won't think twice about it ever again. I won't find them odd or "fearful" or "sheep" or automatically assume they are "virtue signaling" or anything else and I certainly won't make snide comments to them about it.
For me, people wearing or not wearing masks has pretty much just blended into the background about someone's appearance and I really don't even notice it anymore.
It's mostly a theatrical badge of caring. My synagogue still requires it, which is why I may not go to the concert there tonight.
I was happy when I and others HAD to wear a mask during peak Covid or not enter stores.
I was even happier to quit wearing my mask after Covid was lower because my breathing was difficult with mask, especially warm temps outdoors like garden centers.
I'd wear mask again if I had to be in crowded areas or planes or other enclosed spaces.
People coughing near me makes me nervous.
I've noticed some who continue to wear masks while grocery shopping are older black people. Perhaps they have health
conditions that makes wearing a mask permanently a good idea.
