Looking for a new doctor?
Beware of fake rave reviews!!
Just like checking reviews before booking a hotel or picking a restaurant, we also resort to online searches for medical advice. But beware: a physician’s five-star rating may not be what it appears.

Also, I’ve had doctors who clearly engaged in manipulation to get good reviews.
Example: My cataract surgeon. During my last follow-up visit, he was was super nice, flattering, friendly and oddly interested in all my interests. Then, at the very end of the visit he directly asked me to write him a positive review on-line (and even suggested which site).

It's not only fake reviews, it's the content of reviews too. I can't tell you how many reviews I read where the reviewer is making no comment about the actual doctor, but about the front desk person, the bill, etc. I would say almost 50% of reviews are on those topics rather than the actual care of the doctor.
Not that, that's not important. But I'm interested in the quality of the doctor as opposed to issues with the person answering the phone.
I've found you have to actually weed through the reviews a little.
Also, when I see a Doc with 1,000 5 star reviews, it's a little fishy.
