When I had my 21st birthday party where I used to work, customers saw the balloons and asked me if it was my sweet 16 birthday. I hated it back then, now not so much.

Thank you. It may be only one anecdote, but it proves my point.

People regularly mistake me for younger. I think part of it is they don't look that closely. They have a preconceived idea of what my age looks like. Including weight & body shape (I've never had children and am normal weight...not much different from when I was young, except skin isn't firm any more!). I'm in my 60s and recently had a hunky 37 year old guy ask me out. I was shocked. He was working on something at my house. I know he could tell I was older, but he didn't realize how much older I was, apparently. If I'd been much younger, I'd totally have gone for it. He was sooooo cute, incl. face and body and height.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...the man about my age that I've been dating has made a reference several times to wanting a 40 year old, or at least much younger, woman.
So I'm too old for young men (IMO), and I'm too old for old men (in their opinion).

Sigh, ain't that the way. I've had much younger men approach me too because they think I'm younger than I am, and it kind of creeps me out. Or more realistically, it's surreal. I can't imagine being with someone or even dating someone more than 10 or 15 years younger. That man you're seeing is a little rude, no? Like, you're a placeholder or something.

No, I know what she means. When I was 30 people thought I was about 18. It's uncomfortable until you are 43 and people think you are 30. It eventually ends; but, fun while it lasted.

How old do people think your age is? Younger or Older?

When someone asks me how old I think they are, I usually subtract 10 years from what I actually think. If I want to stay friends with them, that is.

Fortunately, rarely does anyone ask me that question. Like what's the point? Do you just want to brag about how young you supposedly look?

The tendency nowadays is for people to look younger than they are. It's our casual society, approach to dress and behavior. I look at my high school yearbooks (66-69), at the kids who were 2-3 years old (seniors and juniors). They look like my parents.

Recently I took public transportation for the first time in probably 20 years
I was with 2 other people the same age as I ,one of which had just had hip surgery and was limping badly.
The first time someone offered me their seat I thought oh how nice. but the second time I thought oh my God I must look so much older than my two friends and was kind of insulted.

I don't believe anyone would ever tell a person they looked older no matter what they look like. With that , I used to think I looked older and would say so. Everyone bar none would tell me Oh you look younger for sure. I did not believe them and would say so.
OK , less than ten years later , I now believe they were telling the truth , because now nobody ever tells me I look younger , but they do not tell me I look older, they stay silent. I know I look older, I have eyes and mirrors, and I don't get hit on very often either, when it used to be if i was out and about I was getting hit on. So I have my plan in place , first I lose some weight , and next stop is the cosmetic surgeon. Not for anyone else. I have been attractive most of my life , and the difference in the way good looking people are treated , and the way plain or not good looking people are treated is ENORMOUS. I do not like being unattractive. It just isn't me. LOL well it won't be.

Don't ask people to guess your age. It puts them in a catch 22 where they feel like they may be insulting you if they guess incorrectly.
And it's sort of implied you're supposed to guess a few years younger than you actually think it is just to be polite. Example: You're 35 and someone thinks you look 35, but they'll guess you look 30, just to cushion a margin of error.
