In the early days sunglasses did not have any UV protection. They had a dark lenses which caused the pupils to open to allow more light in thus exposing the eyes to more UV rays damaging the eyes. Most of today’s sunglasses claim UV protection. Some prescription eyeglasses have UV protection. Transition lenses are among those that have UV protection built in. Another eyewear protection are a very light yellow tint for working at computers and electronic devices to reduce the blue light and eye strain. Eyewear for driving is also vital to health. For daytime driving drivers should always wear a polarized eyewear. Polarized eyewear reduces glare and improve vision in rain and fog. For night time driving don’t bother with those cheap yellow glasses that claim to be for night time driving. They reduce the light to the point of reducing your vision. There are higher end models for night time driving that have a light yellow tint to help reduce night time driving glare while still allowing enough light to see in dark conditions. I’m in my 50s and am becoming light sensitive in vision thanks to my early years of either no sunglasses or sunglasses with no UV protections.

If you wear prescription glasses you can get clip on shades that can fit your frames or wrap around your frames to give all around protection. Another option is fit over shades. There are stylish fit over shades that don’t look like the elderly rigid plastic fit over glasses. Wrap around aren’t comfortable for long wear.
