The next closest place would have been a 2 hour round trip in the dark when I couldn't breathe. No thanks.
It was Sunday night fer chrissake, no pharmacies open anywhere near me
Thank you. Its almost like I can read labels, and assess my situation like a grown up, and know that there are no other options nearby.
I seriously considered going to the ER, which would have been my only option on a SUNDAY NIGHT!!!! I very nearly suffocated last night and had to try and sleep sitting up which is pretty much impossible.
Now, being Monday morning I can go to urgent care.

Maybe you should move to a more consumer friendly place. Ranting on the internet will not change the problem or solution the next time you need something stat.

Mikey politely asks: why are you taking everything out on everyone else?
You could have gone to another store or, if you were as sick as you said that you were, to the emergency room.
You asked the question and you dont like the answers. Do you have something constructive to add to your thread without yelling at everyone who answers you with truthful answers?
The people you should be angry with are at the store that didn't have the product(s) that you were in search of, not us
Thank you for understanding

So buy Mucinex for expectorant or Mucinex DM for suppressant plus suppressant. Same for Robitussin or generics!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found it rather insulting for you to YELL AT ME TELLING ME I'M WRONG and insinuate that I don't know how to read labels. In fact I was not wrong; there were no guafinesin only medications at the store I went to. I guess I was wrong in thinking it was obvious from the context that I wasn't making a general observation about the lack of it in the entire world. Of course, I know it exists, or I wouldn't have been looking for it!

Don't you think I know there are other stores in the world? You have to give people some credit for knowing whether that is a viable option or not.

And don't you think I know that too? I try to limit my visits to ERs to true emergencies. I wasn't sure if this was one or not.

formaldehyde worked until they thought that it causes cancer. So now you can only get formaldehyde to get embalmed.
(aldehydes are used to kill slugs which is why beer works).

You want guaifenesin only. Look for it in generic (they sell it).

Researching it I found that they no longer recommend prednisone in these situations unless there is underlying respiratory conditions. A recent study showed it isn't effective in otherwise healthy patients. I have exercise-induced asthma only, which might not qualify me, but I took a little anyway. If it doesn't help I won't take any more.

We are well into the cough/cold/flu season right now. Stock up on meds before you need them. I cannot tell you how many people do just as the OP and wait until they are actually in need, along with everyone else, and get upset that the OTC meds are sold out or otherwise unavailable last minute.
Where I work we had a retail delivery on friday morning, by sunday afternoon the cough medicines were pretty much gone, nothing more than empty shelves. Buy that stuff back in august, most of it has a shelf life of two or three years, be prepared.

Oh, yay, more citydata help! If you had actually bothered to read the thread, you would have seen that the issue has been resolved long ago. But then you wouldn't have been able to impart such sage wisdom!
Since I haven't used expectorant in decades, it (or I) is likely to be expired before I ever use it again.

Yeah, I did read the whole thread, my reply is more for other people reading the same thread. Nice snark though. Won't apologize for reminding people that it's usually a good idea to be prepared for things like the cold and flu season, power outages, and you know stuff like that.
