Going to try to make this short and clear, if anyone can help me.
-Back surgeon A fixed my lower lumbar disc herniation
-Back surgeon A goes on a personal leave for 3 months shortly after
-I kept insisting on MRI (while he was gone) and finally got one which resulted in a diagnosis of a disk protusion in my cervical neck area
-Back doctor B from completely different practice "fixes" my neck
-Still not satisfied I get another MRI, this time I send to Vanderbilt. Diagnosed needing "repair" on the somewhat botched neck. Insurance declines at the last minute due to technicality.
-Back doctor B brushes it off, he explained it but I'm not satisfied and you can clearly tell on MRI there's stenosis.
-I go back to back doctor A and am told he usually doesn't touch something others have worked on, however I told his office that it's not my fault he was gone when my neck issues were found out. I don't trust back doctor B to do anything. I find out what Doctor A says in a couple hours. I'm going to be insistent that he makes an exception because like I said it's not my fault he was gone.
So, Vanderbilt doctor recommended a guy here in town to do what he was going to do. Let's call him Doctor C. Doctor C is in the same group of doctors of the guy who screwed up with my neck (Doctor B). How in the world do I approach him if Doctor A tells me he won't give me any surgery? Doctor C will tell Dr B and they'll brush me off again and Doctor C won't even look at me.
What the hell do I do? This has been a years long nightmare.
This is WAY above C-D members' paygrade OP! OTOH, we can certainly sympathize and commiserate. OTOH I can understand why one surgeon would be very leery of touching an area another surgeon has already attempted to fix. If/when something doesn't work out the way the patient hopes, who's going to get blamed and who ends up potentially being liable?

Patients switch Dr's within the same practice frequently and don't take it personally (or at least they shouldn't) A practice is run like a business and if a patient shows a legitimate medical reason why they are not a candidate for their practice to do the surgery, then they won't do it. My husband had neck surgery first by Dr A, then needed back surgery, but Dr A was in the process of leaving the practice and gave my husband a couple of referrals. My husband saw 3 of the choices and chose Dr B..... which ended up being the practice Dr A went to.

Find another doctor. You're having insurance issues, how do you think you'll get surgery?
You should go to facebook to find spine facebook groups. Maybe you'll find a better doctor or information about what to do about your back and neck? Revision surgeries can cause more issues then what you currently have. I was fused in 2001, then rods and screws added in 2006. Worst mistake of my life. I kick myself for not going to Philadelphia to see if they could offer something.
Spines are not meant to be fused straight, they're meant to flex. Germany is the best choice, ADR, artificial disk replacement. Google it.

But surgery on the back, and reading this thread, yikes, that is why I
will be really cautious if I actually do get something done.
L5S1 fusion is the worst mistake I ever made, I'm more disabled now then before surgery. Everyone I know with fusion can barely walk a few years after surgery
