If you don't want to take Antibiotics try a 3-5 day water only fast. It will cure a bacterial infection.

There's not much to figure out. I have a sinus infection. Standard advice is to wait 7 to 10 days and start antibiotics if it gets worse or hasn't cleared up. So I did.

Mmmm, I'll pass on that unproven method. I'd rather take antibiotics. Besides I already started so it would be really dumb to stop now.

Interesting. As I mentioned upthread I found out that I had a sinus infection via a culture that my ENT wanted to take. I started the Bactrim and it was too strong; stopped taking it after 5 days. I didn't even know that I had a sinus infection.
Amoxicillin should do ya just fine

I was there for a semi-annual ear cleaning (tubes). He checks everything (Ear-Nose-Throat) and must have seen something while examining my nasal passages that looked like an infection. I have chronic issues due to a genetic defect so it wasn't out of the ordinary to have some kind of bacteria in there.

I am susceptible for whatever reason to sinus infections, probably due to what amounts to chronic sinusitis. I used to have seasonal allergies (Spring) but have evolved into year-round postnasal drip that sometimes is controllable with a once per day antihistamine (currently Allegra) and twice daily steroid nasal spray (Flonase). Amoxicillin is the typical prescription but have received Bactrim, which I swear is more effective despite the assertion of my physicians given it often requires two rounds of Amoxicillin to clear it out. Probably been mentioned somewhere but it's crucial to not stop taking any antibiotic mid-course as it can allow the targeted bacteria opportunity to develop resistance or even strengthen.

Bactrim is the most effective for difficult and resistant infections. You are fortunate that you can take it without side effects. I cannot. Fortunately there are other things people can take. However, Cipro and Doxycycline which can replace Bactrim are also very strong drugs and can cause side effects. Doxycycline is particularly strong. I'm fortunate to be able to take Levaquin; I know that many people can't and have experienced devastating effects from it.
I am seeing my ENT again this week and will ask for another culture to see if the 5 days of Bactrim took care of whatever the bacteria was that showed up 3 weeks ago. If not, I will take Amoxicillin because I'm done with Bactrim. It's on the do not take list.
Keep us posted Deserterer.

You assume it's unproven.

That's the whole point of starting the thread. You should read it, and the links I posted about more recent thinking about duration of use and resistance. In short, longer may be worse, not better.

Already improvement after only 30 hours, very little or no bad smell and foul taste today and no afternoon headache. My congestion actually seemed worse for a while but now I think that's improving too. That also may have been rebound from using Afrin for 3 the last days. I think I've got it on the run.
