"Sulfur burps and diarrhea can appear with many types of stomach problems, including pancreatic cancer. Your pancreas makes chemicals called enzymes that help you digest food. When you have cancer, the production of these enzymes can be affected."
"Sulfur Burps and Diarrhea: Signs of Infection
Diarrhea accompanying these pungent burps is indicative of gastrointestinal infection."
Yes, that's the top of my list. Unfortunately, it's out of network, so we've been saving up for it for quite a while. Probably a year to go yet before we can swing it.
Did they do biopsy samples when you had your colonoscopy(ies)? If it's microscopic colitis, it can really only be diagnosed via biopsy and then microscopic examination by a pathologist. Your description of episodes that come and go does seem to fit in with the pattern of microscopic colitis:
Do you live near a teaching hospital? If so, when you are in the middle of an attack - go to the ER there. They will run every test imaginable and you will have a number of doctors that can try and figure out what is going on. Teaching hospitals have resources to do tests and find out results usually while you are there.
The length of time to get test results depends on the test. The pathology for my West Nile infection was done by the giant path lab in Utah. It took 5 days to get the results after I had a lumbar puncture in Houston.
I had that all my life, I was dx with MS. I have no disability, but I do have the gastro issues. It's the brain miscommunicating. I forget what my neuro called it.

My husband was diagnosed with Collagenous Colitis five years ago. It can only be found by having a biopsy during a colonoscopy. He lost weight, was weak and fatigued. Classic symptom is nocturnal diarrhea. He was put on a steroid with immediate improvement.
We also had to switch Gastro doctor, as first one wouldn't even do a scope because my husband was so weak but his Primary doctor insisted and sent us to the second one. Also my husband had a scan done that clearly showed something going on. AND I believe that this pushed him into stage 4 kidney disease as he was loosing fluids and not able to hydrate enough. Don't take no for an answer!!
