45 year old male:

Blood test results from Fasting: Over 13 hours.

Total Cholesterol = 189

HDL = 56

Triglyceride = 72

LDL = 117 which is not normal. This is a concern.

Total Cholesterol /HDL Cholesterol ratio: 3.4

Non HDL Cholesterol = 133

Glucose = 89

A1C = 5.3

I am confused about the Cholesterol numbers. Can you all help?

as the two are tied together, might look into things that lower blood sugar -- niacin, chromium picolinate, vanadium, moringa, berberine, ceylon cinnamon, cilantro are some options for you to look into

cholesterol is a vital substance for many bodily functions. your numbers look fine to me. still, if you want to go lower i suggest working on lowering blood sugar.

cholesterol that sticks to artery walls is put there by your body to patch deterioration/cracks in the veins. keep your veins/blood in good shape to avoid clots

My doctor doesn’t think I need to go on medication for my Cholesterol. It can be reduced by diet. I can work on lowering sugar. I don’t eat processed sugar. They come from fruits and rice.

I work out in the gym 3x a week.

5’9”, 160 lbs. Smart scale has me at 20-22.5% body fat range but goal is 17% and under.

you are killing it! keep up the good work.

cholesterol is tricky - you have the sugar thing and the blood vessel repair thing. those are two drivers of it. niacin is a really good prospect for you - it works on sugar and cholesterol. i take the time release no flush niacin. 250 mg/day

Also total Cholesterol shows 189 which is under 200. So this is the number that matters overall? I take 1,250 mg of fish oil supplement per day and Orange Triad + Greens multivitamin.

Not true. Cholesterol crystals in arteries produce inflammation which predisposes to clots.

Honestly, I wouldn't do anything additional. I don't worry about my cholesterol at all, as long as it's under 220. I can't take statins, as they cause issues(heartburn all day every day), so I just try to eat reasonably well and not gain weight. Best thing I ever did for blood lipids was stop drinking soft drinks. That dropped my triglycerides from 170 to 70.
